Hey, I was wondering if you guys feed inside our out of your roosts? I have heard it's best not to feed "in" your roost.
I have to hoop houses on pasture for my layers.
1 roost house and 1 with nest boxes. about 40 hens.
I'm sorry but the legalease is too much. I have chocolate muscovies. Is there something I should do now to prove I own them so I can be grandfathered? I don't have any paperwork or receipts that bought them years ago!
I think many of you are misunderstanding the concept here. "Pasturing" is very different in terms of square foot requirements. All shanel will be doing is providing roost area and nest areas for the birds. The 2 rolls of premier fencing will give the birds approximately 1/4 acre of new forage...
Hi All, I have newly hatched RIR chicks. I was wondering about the coloring. These were hatched from my flock so I know they are pure. I was wondering why some have stripes, some are buff, some have egyptian eyes, some don't. Could this be linked to sex? With my original flock I noticed the same...
I have 2 breeds in the incubator in two trays. RIR and Marans. All the RIR have hacthed and only a few pips in the Marans. The RIR's have been hatched about 16 hours. I was getting worried about them. All eggs were set the same day. It's day 21.

Wow Bill,
Now I have to have one of those too!! That's really cool. Not that I can afford another expensive grill/smoker but a person can dream right?

LOL, LOL, I was wondering the same thing. Thought I was missing something. Now let me go look at that link.
Umm, ok it's a grill. Never even heard of it before.
I had a friend raving about his for a long time and I thought "Big Deal it's a cooker!" That was until he smoked a boston...
I just finished my Whizbang. The book is really well written and I had no problems at all. I'm somewhat mechanical but I really think anyone could build one easily. The only thing I had machined was the feather plate and the spindle. I could have made the feather plate easily enough but decided...

As well as a goal of creating a meatie that breeds true why not have the breeding program that creates the P1 and P2 per you example and having those producing your meat stock for a year and then rinse and repeat. Would it cost a little more?...yes, but you are still self sustaining and...

I'm in Georgia. It's actually illegal to sell eggs at the farmers markets without a permit. I would have thought it's illegal in TN too. Are you sure it isn't? BTW I am referring to eggs for eating not hatching eggs.

As I understand it, You can sell as "farm fresh"from your home in most states without a permit. In order to sell "Graded" eggs at a Farmers Market etc.. you must have a candling permit. Regulations will vary state to state but using the USDA graded sticker will not...you must have a...
Who here actually has a USDA candling permit to sell eggs? I have an appointment this month to take the test. This will allow me to sell at the local Farmers Market. I am going over the study materials now.
I am getting a few eggs that are either very oval or round and I wasn't sure how to orient them in the turner. I can't tell which end was the pointy end. What to do?

Do you use a mechanical plucker for processing?
I'm posting this here instead of the Duck section since so many raise Muscovies for pets. I currently raise chickens and I have free ranged some Muscovy's this year to try them out.
Here is my problem.. Having the mixed flock this year was tough. The Muscovies always made a mess of the...
