    Broody Hen Thread!

Hey guys, got a question for you. My broody has been siting on her eggs for 12 days now, about 5 days ago she stopped leaving the nest all together so I leave food within pecking reach. Well, this morning I went to let the girls out, and one of her eggs was in the middle of coop, about 4 ft away...

    Crook neck leghorn chick

You know, I'm starting to wonder if it's just a deformity. What looks like the chicks neck fluff in the pictures, is actually where the bone in its neck is in the shape of a fish hook. The chick is doing really well.

    Broody Hen Thread!

Thanks for the response rebrascora! This is my first broody, hatching day is Election Day. I'm a little worried because it's been between 40-50 degrees here, but she's been dedicated to sitting on those eggs. She just gets off about 15-20 minutes a day. After the chicks hatch, I was thinking...

    Broody Hen Thread!

Hey all! I just found this thread and was reading along a bit, and it raised a question in me. I read somewhere in this thread, that a broody hen will wait for eggs to hatch about 16hours from the time the first one hatches. Well, I gave my broody hen 3 more eggs to sit on, about 24 hours after...

    Crook neck leghorn chick

It's more that she's always hunched, her neck feels like it has a crook in it. It was hard to get a good picture,it wasn't happening with me holding her, but you can see compare her to the other chicks in this photo.

    Crook neck leghorn chick

I just looked up wry neck, and it says it makes the chick look up? My chick looks more like a hunchback, like it can't extend its neck.

Will these chicks be olive eggers?

Thanks guys! Sounds like the eggs will be pretty regardless. I know the chicks that hatch out of the australorps eggs will be brown layers, I'm just so curious how both mix breeds will look! I'm also excited because a couple of the blue eggs are from a hen that was killed by a raccoon. :( I'm...

    Crook neck leghorn chick

Hi all! My dad and I ordered 25 chicks from a hatchery to split up between us, they are about a week and a half old now. I noticed 4 days ago that one of the leghorn chicks has crook neck. I thought about separating her, as the other chicks knock her over, but other than that she's doing well...

Will these chicks be olive eggers?

Hello everyone! I'm new to back yard chickens, but not new to raising chickens. :) I have my first broody hen, and I'm wondering if some the chicks will be olive eggers/ what they will look like. Then hen is sitting on 5 blue eggs from my hatchery Araucana, and two eggs from my Australorp. The...
