We have lost 4 chickens, we thought possibly Marek's. But we sent our last on to die, our rooster, off for a necropsy and the preliminary report said possible big liver and spleen disease. Does anyone have any information on this or know a way I can keep my other hens from getting it?
Thank you...
We have had trouble with our flock too. Thought to be Marek's. Where do we find the wormer and other meds you mentioned? We feel helpless. We have a sick roo now, going downhill fast and can't find medication anywhere.
We had to put her down after my last post. We now only have 2 left. Both bantam. One a rooster. The hen hasn't layed an egg in a month. No other symptoms other than molting. Do you think this is starting all over?
I guess they both look a little cloudy, or gray. Thank you for the information. This is hard knowing what the right thing to do is. I do feel like she's suffering though. I don't know how much chickens can go through and then recover. We bought 5 chicks a little over a year ago. The first one...
I brought her inside and soaked her. Upon closer inspection she seems to be wasting away. Her eye is cloudy and she can barely walk and her breast bone is protruding. She also seems to have a red, swollen vent that is painful to the touch. I don't know what to do? I can't stand to see her suffer. :(
Came out to check on my hen and she is not looking good. Her is eye partially closed again and she was laying at the bottom of the coop and could not get up. She has dropping stuck to her feathers on her behind (I believe because she is not able to roost), I separated her. Her droppings look...
She doesn't have nasal drainage or labored breathing. Our chickens were not vaccinated for Marek's. We have a bantam rooster who could have accident damaged her eye when mating. She has always had a bald spot on the top of her head from him. She is eating and trying to get around as best she can.
Thank you. I feel so bad for her. We took one of our other chickens to a vet and it cost us a couple hundred dollars, only to be sent home with pain medication. We had to put him out of his misery after about a week. This was over a year ago though. I hate that it is hard to find good care for...
My hen started limping probably 2 weeks ago. I thought she was egg bound so I separated her and soaked her in epsom salt and gave her extra calcium. (She has not laid an egg in this period either), but she seemed better, still with a limp, after about 5 days so I put her back in the coop. She...
