Update, I'm keeping Goldie in a dog crate and she's seems to be happy eating drinking and yes pooping. She's still not walking but seems to be thriving in crate and on my lap. Spoiled. Vets in the area that deal with chickens want 50 just to walk in the door. I'll keep updating. Thankyou and...
I have a 5 month old golden wynndotte hen. She just started limping on her right leg. I checked her feet legs skin and I didn't see anything that looked odd. It seems to be the upper leg not extending completely as she favors it. Should she be separated and locked up? Any suggestions would be great.
Yes it was sour crop, unfortunately I caught it too late. I had to dispatch. My favorite chicken paid the ultimate price for my lack of chicken education. But now I know what to look for. I want to thank BYC and all you great chicken folk. It's so reassuring to know so many people are ready to...
Ok I have question now that Sammy my roo that's getting over his "cold" when and if he completely recovers will he be a weak bloodline for offspring? He was supposed to be a hen, breeder didn't lift the skirt high enough. Lol And I was looking forward to having a couple offspring from him
Thanks Wyorp Rock,
I have another question. I read earlier even if he gets well he will still be a carrier? So that means I can't rehome him, because no one will want him. It would be my responsibility to disclose any prior illnesses, right?
I have another problem. I have 6 pullets ready to...
Thankyou everyone my Sammy is doing better, his wheezing is getting better and seems to stop when he isn't running around. So he is in a large dog crate inside at night. Someone suggested to give him a dose of Tylan 50 to help fight anything he might have. Also he still has a great appetite he...
I started him on vetrx, also added it in his water. I let him loose in my yard for a little while so he can scratch in my garden. My other 2 roos chased him and cornered him and attacked. as soon as he saw me he ran to me for help. I know we're not supposed to interfere but his wheezing started...
He's beautiful just needs some veggie scraps maybe some fruit and some love. He'll be a big boy when he gets some weight on him. I love my roosters but my neighbors complain about the neighborhood roos' making a racket, keeping them awake. What can a person do?
Thank you Nicole and master. For your very good info. I put my orp in a lg.dog crate with food and probiotic back in the main coop. His wheezing isn't bad if he is resting, if he starts running around he starts to wheeze, with labored breathing. So I'm keeping him quiet for the time being...
Gorgeous coops guys Thanks for the great plans and info. I'm looking forward to redesigning my coop. I unfortunately have become disabled with an unstable spine. So I can't just jump into rebuilding the coop
now. But it's something I can look forward too. Great ideas.
Hi my coop is about 10x10 and is covered with coregated roof and tarp walls. The ground is damp but not muddy. Would it be better to wait for it to dry up in spring and then add 3"of sand? Or could I put the sand now creating a dryer environment?
Well I have my orp in house covered with a bowl of probiotic, a dish of basil with cinnamon and a dash of garlic on his food. I covered all the bases now I wait. And pray.
Hi everyone,
Sammy my 5 month old pure black orpington roo, started wheezing last night with a cough or sneeze. He is the only one exhibiting it. Today I brought him in the house keeping him covered in a large tub for warmth. Also gave him some probiotic water. His stool is watery though and I...
