Sorry..the hen in question is a Hamburg hen almost 2 years old. She is the top hen of a flock of only3. It is my thinking that she is biting off all or parts of the feathers on the other 2 hen's heads. I have not actually seen her do it but have checked for lice and have put her in a cage of...
Have a question about debeaked chickens, does the top beak ever grow? Am wondering if the beak is like a toe nail and grow back at some point? Have a mean hen and tried other methods and am considering debeaking her, but am wondering if the beak could grow back at some point in time incase...
OK...this is my 2 cents worth, from my experience. If you start with letting the chickens out sometimes..then there is never enough free time(in their minds). Be consistant...use your head not your heart(not like me) give them plenty of things to do when confined!!...in my opinon, once you...
My only concern would be the height of the roost and nests. Have heard that high roosts with no cushion on the floor can hurt the bottoms of the chicken's feet? Also, I use a finetine pitchfork....works great and extends the time between my changing shavings.
I have fencing like that and it works for my 3. My fence covers narrow areas like 3 ft wide X 10ft long. The girls have put their heads throught it, but they loose interest and move on.
Can anyone tell me ...or tell me where to look to find out what causes the percentage of protein in laying pellets? I have looked at the label on the bottom of the bag..but? thanks
Didn't I read somewhere that changing what we feed them can cause upset stomach for a short while?...and if you are changing what she eats everyday her stomach is not getting a chance to catch up???....not saying this is how it started but is not helping?....and have a dumb question....can a...
Am very happy this subject has come up, because what I am finding in my readings is that 65% corn is in the name brand poultry feeds. Have no idea if the people saying this are correct....but is interesting and makes me wonder as I have always been told too much corn makes a chicken...
Have a quick question....has anyone tried using warm water in their heated bowls? Am wondering if the warm water will mess with the bowls heating system?....thanks ...Jim from Cincinnati
Would have to say my favorite breed is the Hamburg. A beautiful small breed which lays(alot)of small white eggs. They are an active breed, and some say they are shy and flighty. Got mine also from Meyers......have been very pleased.
Have you considered Hamburgs? Their eggs are small but you get many of them. A beautiful bird like your Campines and just as flighty...but I love to watch them.
