    Poopy butt....and worms?

Do you know how many things come up in the sear h with those words? So many, that I don't have time to read them ALL. Found a chicken with a poopy but, black runny poo all down her backside, flies were attracted. Went to simply wash her off and noticed a hard 'nodule' of some sort that I was...

    How to train your rooster?

He's run up on me, my wife, and one of my kids so far. Scratched my daughter. That was last week. Yesterday he tried it on me, when I was getting them scratch no less! ungrateful jerk. LOL. Anyway, I was able to grab him and sit on him and hold him down until he submitted. I was able to then...

    My rooster wont stop crowing

Well now it's time to train mine. He tried to run up on me this morning after letting them out. He has run up on my wife and daughter as well. I guess it's time to catch him and sit on him to show who is the real rooster in the yard. Oy, working with animals....lol.

    My rooster wont stop crowing

No. We live in the country and it's dark out here. No lights that I know of where the coop/run is.

    My rooster wont stop crowing

He must really think my lovely bride is a threat. He constantly crows when she is sitting on the porch. It's the night crowing that surprised me. I thought that was only a daylight thing. Might have reconsidered the natural way to grow a flock....lol.

    My rooster wont stop crowing

We have just added a roo to our flock. he came from one of my egg customers who finally got a little flock of her own going. She didn't want a roo though. I had no idea they would crow ALL hours of the day or night! Will he ever calm down at night?

    3 hens pecked to bloody!!

Update: a week later. After thinning the flock, the egg production is back up to where it used to be, 8-9 eggs a day. I guess the 3 that were culled were not laying and causing stress to everyone else. I was also able to get everyone back on 30% protein food, as it has not been easy to find...

    3 hens pecked to bloody!!

Funny, I thought you were NY Corturnix from YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaIUAGCGauCvEO5h0iIKs3w) I added some, maybe a tablespoon or so to a spry bottle filled with water. I saw it in one of Kenny's videos, but can't find it now.

    3 hens pecked to bloody!!

Well I did use your method of apple cider vinegar mixed with water to integrate some of my flock. Worked pretty well.

    3 hens pecked to bloody!!

So I did hear it correctly. Well, everyone seems to be fine now, and ended up with 28 birds in the freezer.

    3 hens pecked to bloody!!

OK, well culled about 25 birds today and got the rest down to 4 cages of about 5-6 each. still 8 total in my one group that is fine with it. I guess I heard the math incorrectly somewhere. No worries. Dinner in the fridge works just as well. Thanks. Oh, BTW, I asked a question on the internet...

    3 hens pecked to bloody!!

Hmmm. I got these cage plans from Corturnix Corner and IIRC that is about what he has in his cages. They have been fine for months. I thought 1 square foot was for chickens. My chickens have a huge house now, and a fully netted yard.

    3 hens pecked to bloody!!

What the heck!? Went out yesterday morning, checked the flocks....no issues. I have 5 cages with numerous birds. Some did not get food yesterday because today is culling day. Anyway, checked in on my 2 flocks of fertilizing layers, and 3 of the hens were all torn up! In one day! I only have 1...

    Second generation hatchng today!

It was actually almost dry, I believe, but I was not around when it actually got out. From what I could see it was dry before hatching all the way. After trying to see if it would drink or eat (nope), I had to go do some yard work. Came back in a couple hours later and it was not moving much...

    Second generation hatchng today!

I ended up with 36 hatching. The last one pipped out the first day with all the others and then took 3 days to actually hatch. It is very shaky now, and is not really as big as the others. I left it in the incubator for the recommended 24 hours, then took it out to the brooder this morning. It...

    Second generation hatchng today!

I'm in this for food: meat and eggs, so I have t watch out some, and I don't want to have issues with my food supply. Hatched out 35 of 45. 1 is still in the egg that it pipped 2 days ago, so if history is proof, it will die in the egg sometime soon, although it did chirp rather loudly about...

    Second generation hatchng today!

Got my first batch of 30 eggs from Myshire. This quail are about 18 weeks now (I forgot to count once they were laying). Today first hatchling os out of first batch of 45 eggs incubated. I see several other eggs moving and can hear them chirping, which is really cool I might add. So here is the...

What do I feed my quail?

I see that others are also having trouble finding the right food. My local TSC is almost never in stock with higher protein food like quail need. I was getting 50# bags of the DuMOR 24% then they suddenly stopped carrying it and went to fancy packaged 10# bags and the price more than doubled for...
