We just moved to our home in June, beautiful 20 acres but the downfall is the well water. We had it tested, it is safe to drink it is just incredibly salty, we talked about drilling a new well but just the area as a whole is salty. We have horses that don't mind it. I just bought baby chicks...
Unfortunatley, I lost 3 chicks to basically a "cold". When they were shipped from the hatchery to the store they were shipped when it was snowing here. By the time I figured it out, I went to the local vet and bought the Terymycin antibiotic that you put in their water for 7-10 days so I was...
Unfortunatly I lost mine, I had to run to the local vet and buy the antibiotic Terymycin to put in their water. Was only able to save one by the time that I go it. :( Glad you saved yours in time...what is the Tylan? Is that some sore of antibiotic for horses?
I brought my 8 chicks home Saturday. Today is Friday and I am down to just 3 (well maybe two now) chicks. There is something going through them and killing them.
I have a heat lamp on them that is not too hot. I started them on puppy pee pads and paper towels and changed that daily along with...
I have a chick that is suddenly gasping for air. I separated her and tried to give her some sugar water. She's very weak and can't stand or hold her wings. This just started a couple hours ago. What else do I do?! They have had 1 round of save-a-chick electrolytes and probiotics in the water...
I bought them from the local farm store on Saturday (almost 6 days ago), it is cold outside here so they have not been on soil. i started them on just paper towels and just put in large pine wood shavings yesterday.
symptoms improve when i hold her upright but when i set her down she just lays there. She pooped 2x in a matter of 10 minutes which was watery and there was some white in it
I clean the bedding once a day. There is no dust in the brooder. No discharge from eyes, nose and no sneezing. She is literally just gasping for air and laying down.

I noticed it (last night) 4 days later.... all chicks were fine & healthy for the first couple days. Then i noticed she wouldn't move and was constantly opening and closing her mouth
Here is her backside whiteout being wet, it is very heavy and hard for her to keep her balance forward.
Her wings are dropped because she is too weak to hold them up but when she panics does a good job at trying to flap them.
You can see her mouth is open. Her mouth is constantly opening...
Very well could be, I guess maybe she just has a weakened immune system? All of the others seem fine. It's just her. I read up on mushy chick and thats mainly found in the first 48 hours after a chick hatches. I am just so confused. I don't feel it is that but she is separated from the crew just...
I brought my baby chicks home 5 days ago, they all were fine besides one that I noticed last night was struggling to keep her balance, legs wide spread, weak and contracting her whole body like she's in pain and constipated.
I have tired apple cider vinegar in the water, trying to get her to...
