    YO GEORGIANS! :)

You can say that again about everything. I went to check the brooder to find out what had everyone in an uproar and there was a riotous chase going because someone had the choicest piece of pine in her beak and everyone [well, maybe only a few] had to have what she had. Of course once she was...

    Breaking the brooder in winter

Last spring I had the weather turn on me and spring turned back into winter (overnight temperatures in the 20s) after I moved my chicks from brooder in the house to shed with heater (at 4 weeks) to coop (in the middle of the 5th week). They kept each other warm. My laying hens in the group are...

Becky, I have to admit that I never thought I would like NNs until I started seeing you post so many pictures. Poindexter was adorably ugly. I am sorry you had to part with him.

@Mylied I see you are keeping your button quail in a small animal cage. Is that working well for you? Were the cage bars set close enough when they were chicks? How talkative are your trio? I am just wondering about having house birds myself... I kind of miss it when I am not brooding chicks. Or...

Becky, sorry to have left you muttering to yourself. I have been busy volunteering at children's theater camp with my daughter. We work hard for two weeks to get a show on stage at the end for two performances. Multiply that by six different classes/age groups and you've got the definition of...

Personally, I would edit my first post, then post again briefly saying that you have edited the OP. The additional post will let those who are following the conversation definitely know there has been an update, while an edit generally would not.

LoL, let me know how that works. So far this temporary fence set-up under the heavy tree canopy didn't have to deal with today's heavy rain. The heavy downpour was up the road and I had to drive through it and the run-off on the road. When I turned onto my road, there were dry spots under the...

I don't know,@Mylied they aren't in the same family as quail, despite the name. There are lots of species included in button quail and they all will be different.

:yuckyuck I have been busy getting my electric poultry fence set up. I have only had the kit sitting around for about a year. Its about time I keep the chickens from destroying all my new plants and make sure predators get zapped.

@Flowerbh ,Becky someone in Ellijay is advertising Lavender Orpington chicks on FB North Georgia Chicken Swap group. If you're still in the market for that breed, check them out.

Average butchering speed 15 minutes per bird?! Wow! I have been feeling a lot of arthritis in my hands, so I have been putting off processing the four I need to dispatch (2 who ended up being white rocks, so not nearly so big, but they need to get gone). I am not nearly so efficient.

I thought we were going to have a dry day, but the rain barged in late in the day. Our Lake Nottely is full and overflowing its spillway. I am tired of feeling damp. I feel sorry my chickens who don't have a/c.

@Mylied so sorry to hear. I felt bad finding my one hen's egg broken today, but a snake?!

My run is pretty sloppy too. Here in the mountains, there is no such thing as level ground, so water just runs right in, no matter that it's roofed. I do open up the little run to let the chickens out further afield for a few hours so it least they can get into grass. @Tobasco Jack, that was a...
