YO GEORGIANS! :)

Why do I feel like I'm typing to myself???
Because I've been too busy to check in regularly. Processing, incubating, brooding, moving tractors, and it's mowing season. Planting food plots.
Broody ducks are cutting into my egg money. I hope they hatch them out. I'd rather them raise them.
I don't know if I mentioned it earlier, but the first of April I got 28 Novagen layers. They're looking pretty good and have adapted to the tractor on pasture pretty well. I also got an electric poultry net with solar charger that I keep the tractors in. In 3 months, I've only lost 2 chicks to an owl. No possum problems at all. Since I didn't lose any of the Cornish, I'd say the thing has paid for itself.

Becky, sorry to have left you muttering to yourself. I have been busy volunteering at children's theater camp with my daughter. We work hard for two weeks to get a show on stage at the end for two performances. Multiply that by six different classes/age groups and you've got the definition of hectic. I am beat at the end of the day.

Sue, I am sorry your family is dealing with such a tragedy. You'll all be in my prayers.

Backyard chickens: since I put up my fence my one layer stopped laying. I'm not sure what about the change she doesn't like. It could be the heat maybe?

So, one of my broodies had her babies hatch today. Instead of taking care of her babies, she left them and tried to steal the eggs (and nest) of another broody! The baby chicks were just left until I went and tried to put her back over her chicks. She didn't want that, she just wanted to sit on more eggs! Ugh! Dumb hen! So, I took her babies and put them in the brooder. Put her back with the other hens in the coop where she promptly went to find some eggs to sit on! What a nut! So, she is still broody!
Flowerbh, what has happened with the twice-broody hen? Is she still setting? How many consecutive hatches do you think she can handle, endless? She could be an easy alternative to an incubator!
