Oh, no no, didn't have a loss at all THANKS to the cam. The bird missed it's catch the first time which is what I saw on cam, and chased it off before losing anything. My cam also has a 2 way speaker to help shoo off critters.
This is an ip cam as well, my mom sometimes also Logs into it...
I've become the crazy chicken lady around town, but I also converted my neighbors into getting chickens :) AND i turned my old baby cam into a coop cam, in the evenings it's in the coop and during the day it watches what small section of the run that it can see from where it's perched lol...
EE in Question:
and then these next few are in the 6 week range.
Speckled Sussex:
Salmon Favorelles:
The favorelles really has me on the fence. I see lots of Roo traits (dark colors, black on half the breast) but it didn't develop the black until pretty late, vs. the one that we...
about a week ago. it's about 9 weeks in this photo.
Also, as far as personality goes, it's mock fighting with another chicken of mine, so i'm thinking they're both possible roos.
if it's a he, then I'll have a hard choice once these chicks mature. I have a couple roosters in my little barnyard mix (1 other EE, a salmon favorelles that I'm pretty sure is a roo, and a jersey giant roo. 1 or 2 others i suspect also as roos)
Grow them up and the 2 best roosters win their...
I have a couple easter eggers, but this one is by far the prettiest so far at just 6 weeks old today. I'm worried this little chick; Sweetpea, might be a boy though from the coloring. But then, I'm use to just getting the normal partridge colors for EE and thats all i've ever seen for them...
Here he/she is now at 6 1/2 -7ish weeks old. Not a lot of waddles going on, but comb is pretty red. However I remember my last RIR having a pretty red comb early on too and thought it would be a roo only to be a hen... so, second opinion. Do I got a girl or a boy here?
Finally got individual pics of the new babies like I've been meaning to, wanted to track their growth and colors for fun, do a weekly growth of multiple breeds. So, here the babies are at a week and a half
1-3 salmon favorelles. Straight run.
4 jersey giant roo
5 light Brahma pullets (2 1/2...
I'm guessing roo, it's the only one that still hasn't developed a tail in the 3-4 week is group, and it also seems to like starting mini cock fights with the other chickens, not as much since two other chicks from the batch became food like I originally bought them for. But it'll try to fight...
One of those two passes away :( she had bad paste butt and wasn't eating or gaining weight, in one day she was 10g lighter than her sister :( :( and side these were my friends kids pet, I'm gonna try to get a new light Brahma soon.
BUT my order came in today, all 16 alive and active except...
just wondering on that, it hit me while grilling and now that i think about it, it's a dumb question. I mean, i filet fresh caught fish and then throw them on to cook and have done so with rabbit before too, so it's probably the same with chickens. Though whenever I feed raw to my dog i am...
Because I'm the lady with the chickens, and because I won't complain about free chicks lol. These are the two my friends kids picked out and bought to stay with my ever-growing flock!
So now I have those two little Brahmas, RIR, easter eggers, white leghorns, speckled Sussex, buff...
I wouldn't call practicality as being ruthless, but if that's what it is then I guess I'm ruthless. At least in anything that is a pet secondary. Believe me, I adore animals, but I have done animals that are purely for pets (cats dogs) and some that are for specific purpose such as food in...
That wouldn't be terrible at all, I'm trying to also remember a cloud based upload site (similar to drop box) with a model viewer that could be used by BYC? Either way though, I'd definitely like to contribute some stuff when I can. There are a few accessories I see on Pinterest that I'm...
Thanks for this, and thats true about holding back a roo from the pairings. I guess my main concern was the father copulating with his little hen daughters down the line more than anything else and how long that could go on (father/grandfather/great grandfather x daughter/grandaughter/great)...
Thanks everyone! Bear with me while I get around to figuring out a variety of things that cross my mind and get familiar with the many different parts of the forum and get to know all of you! :) I'm sure i'll be having a lot of regular questions and comments.
