Happy new year all! What is the best way to safely prevent your birds from using certain parts of a perch that is made out of 2x4 (wide side up)? I'd like to somehow keep them off the last couple feet of the perch that spans across the coop because I dont want them pooping over the nest...
Hi Rob - Happy Holidays! I am trying to inquire about advertising on the forum. I have tried emailing and sending a message via the contact form, but have not received any replies. Can you help?
Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I am leaning towards raising it up with cement blocks. Understood that there should be a decent amount of room under - dont want critters making a home there.
Hi all - I am considering different coop foundations, any feedback on your experiences would be helpful. The coop footprint is 8'x8'. I do not want to pour a full concrete base. Here is what I am debating:
1 - Raised vs on the ground. Do you think it is better to raise the coop slightly off...
All great points! Love the "traffic pattern" notion. Yes, I remember your coop stack up notes, and the overhead room above roosts. I am going to modify as follows:
- Nest boxes 8 inches off floor (lower than my original 20 inches but high enough for deep bedding)
- Roosts: make them 6 feet...
Thank you aart! All of those are very helpful. I will make sure soffits are at least 12" and will put in an additional window. A few additional questions:
- Do you think I should just make the coop floor 8x8 instead of 8x10 so that it aligns better with material dimensions (lumber/plywood)...
Thank you Rural!!
I definitely will consider all. Raising the door was already in my plan, just didnt properly show it, but that is a must to keep bedding in order.

Ok all - I have sketched up a larger coop. See the attached pic. This is a basic floor plan and layout of the nest boxes, door, main vents. I went with an 8x10 ft size. I plan on locking down the main design, then making it adaptable to larger sizes. The "optional slide doors" are exactly...
So sorry for your loss! Please PM me - I own a website that sells coop plans, if you plan on building a new coop I will send you whatever plans you like, for free.
All the best.

Great response. I agree 100% with everything you said. Yes, there are so many different variables that need to be considered. But this is a common question for many newbies, so I think you have to start somewhere. I'm sure users can debate it all day on this forum...which is great because...
This is a spin-off of one of my other posts where we went in depth into how important "Chicken Math" is to the health and well being of your flock. As many of you know, I am putting a website together (which is up and running but still a work in progress) and I said I would post some helpful...
Thanks for your reply! Yes I have made lots of updates and added a ton of free info on Chicken Math and other important topics. I have been working hard over the last 2 and a half weeks to introduce these improvements. I'll take another look at the Mini Coop specs for sure, thank you. One...
Art - thanks for the response. I really do appreciate it and am looking to make these long-standing and functional plans. I am re-working them to consider all of your comments, especially those on vents and roosts. I am also going to have 3 new large designs made, which will incorporate all...
