Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Here is a good diagram on wing clip..... Clipping is very easy....esp. Calls. I've clipped Muscovy also and they are not the mildest, most cooperative duckies... http://www.cornerstonefarm.net/wingdemo.html

Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

I clip only one wing and also leave the first two-three flight feather alone (beauty clip). That way they look less "shorn"....lol. and still are able to at least get off the ground a bit and fly forward somewhat if a predator is after them. Clipping one wing keeps them off balance so they...

Do the typical grays have this much white on them when they are juveniles? ..chest and tummies are all white. This guy was a breeding btwn a snowy hen or snowy pastel hen and a blue fawn drake. First generation appleyard pattern?

I have Pilgrims and my goose, Lily started laying back in Feb. YIKES!! Our temps have been down below zero so I've been collecting and dating her eggs. We are finally due for some above freezing temps w/lows in the teens and 20's so I plan on putting some of her oldest eggs in her nest...

Sweet PDZ is like heavy sand...nothing like crumbles or pelleted food. Not a problem.

I sprinkle it over their bedding before adding another thin layer of pine shavings...esp. when the weather is warm/hot as their shed gets smelly REAL fast. ;)

As sebastopol said....Chocolate is sex linked so even though I haven't seen this particular cross..... I have a Chocolate drake and a very light colored hen which I thought was silver but her daughters hatch out lilac & the two boys she hatched out were blue carrying chocolate. In fact all my...

They should warm up pretty fast. Try giving them some treats every day at about the same time. I always recomment fresh frozen, thawed peas. Even if the first time they look at you like "what?" They will gobble them up soon enough and come running every time they see you. My girls will...

Sounds good to me..... that should be enough for them.... though they might not think so.... Have you ever tried thawed frozen peas??? ALL my ducks/chickens/geese LOVE peas! They go crazy over them & if I could only give one treat, peas ... fresh frozen & thawed... would be the one. ;)

I'm not used to seeing blacks fade so much (esp. the hen) before they molt....hmmmmm... but it is about that time for them to molt & their feathers do get mighty tattered AND waterlog easily right before so I expect they will look just fine once they molt out and have a brand new set of...

Hi... and Yep, it looks like your's are going through molt which makes it a bit difficult to judge the colors. Looks like your girls are carrying chocolate though. Any of your colors that carry chocolate will "fade" over time until molt which makes the colors look muddy as the year goes...
