Yea!! I just candled eggs from my Dutch and it looks like we have fertile eggs!! They are under a broody silkie who is my best mom. Next week should be the big week!! 2 Dutch eggs and 3 Serama due. I love chickens!!!
Donna from Delware here again . . . I really appreciate you coming down here. I love your show and wouldn't miss it. I am supposed to be picking up a pair of Dutch Bantams. Talk about hard to find!! I am excited there will be a meet there for them. Maybe I can come home with more than 1 pair...
Hard to tell from the pictures, but make sure they are breeding for yellow legs and red earlobes. Right now the only color accepted by the ABA is white. Backs should be V shaped which is hard to tell from a photo. Print out a copy of the standard from either SCNA or ASA. Remember most people are...
I made arrangements to be off work to drive 4 hours to a poultry show, some would call me crazy but I am among friends here ;) We will be bringing Serama and pigeons. The chickens are easier than the pigeons to travel with. Are premium lists up yet??
Where can you purchase good quality Dutch bantams?? I have tried a couple of places, with no luck. I know a lot of breeders hold their stock until the Fall, but I can't believe that no one in America has good quality birds that they are tired of feeding. LOL I currently breed and show Serama...
If he doesn't go now, I will keep him over the summer, and then would consider shipping in the fall. He will be going to the Crossroads show with us in October if we still have him. Thanks for the compliment.

Sunshine is a 3 month old Serama cockerel. He was hatched March 31st along with 1 other roo and 5 hens. All the hens are sold and I am keeping his brother, but since he is marked just like his Dad, I am offering him up for auction. He is available for pickup only as the weather is too hot to...
Good Luck with the eggs. I tried Serama eggs in an incubator a couple of times. . .no success. Best incubator for our eggs is the "hen"cubator. So far 9 eggs out of 16 hatched!!

Delaware here!! I live in Smyrna and my Serama hens are in the process of hatching a new clutch. 7 so far, with at least 9 more eggs in the nest. Will not know if hens or roos for a couple of weeks, but if you want to PM me I will keep you informed. See photo in the Serama section of one of the...
I have 2 roos in the house now. My older one only starts crowing when he hears us get up. The younger one is just learning to crow. They are no noisier than some parrots, but the younger ones I hatched over the winter would wake up at 3 or 4 a.m. and start then. I can't have roos outside, so...
This is my the second hatched in the latest brood of chicks. (Hopefully the picture works) Three hens are sitting on a total of 12 eggs and so far 7 have hatched and there is another one pipping as I write. Hopefully in another year "Triton" will be ready for the Cajun Classic:) Nothing like a...
Everything looks good. Tanner enjoyed himself last night, and saw the chicken costume contest so I guess he is going to learn how to sew now too.

Just put 6 Serama eggs into the 'bator last night. . .couldn't get the "hencubator" to work, so we had to use the electric version. Here's hoping for a great first hatch. Really nice pair and am hoping for really nice chicks in 3 weeks. Good luck to everyone who has babies on the way.

Happy Sunday everyone!!
Check out the Serama website for great pics of color, size, temperment, etc. Lots of info regarding getting them accepted into the ABA early next year as well. The website is: www.scnaonline.org. You have to register and they will send you confirmation, but there are tons...
My EE girls are just finishing breakfast . . . yogurt, mealworms, watermelon, peas, and broccoli. Guess they should be getting only chicken feed since they are mutts. . . Seriously though, I understand the concern about breeding "purebred" but most of them were originally crosses of two or more...
Working for a pet supply that also sells "farm" feeds, make sure the date on the bag is current. The only time we ever deal with grain mite or moths is when the food is nearing the expiration date, or someone did not keep up with rotating the bags. You can see an increase in the mites in the...
My girls are 5 weeks old and they just got their butts booted out into the coop. We started with a rubbermaid container, graduated to a 4 x 4 wooden brooder in the living room, and today, moved into their coop. I am going to leave them inside only for a few days, then open their door and let...
I purchased a solar spot light from Lowes that turns on automatically when someone walks by. It is almost as bright as our electric lights, but doesn't cost anything to run. Even though we really don't have any predators in our neighborhood, it works to let me know when my own dogs are too close...
Mine are doing the same thing. The 5 EE girls are nuts!! We moved them into a bigger brooder today (4 x 4) and moved their perch up to 12 inches off the ground and one of the girls used the perch to get up to the top of the brooder (which is 32 inches high), so back on went the chicken wire to...
Bummer. . . My first egg pipped late last night, and was doing a good job zipping, but the little one just couldn't make it:hit This is my first hatch, and there a still 7 eggs left, but it makes me so sad. I know first hatch are hard, but I am hoping to get just one out of the eggs to hatch...
