2 year old Hen- Only laid six eggs this year.... Help!

Hi, @Eggcessive @Parront and @bobbi-j. Updates on my girl. Her protuberance grew significantly within a week. We took her to the vet and did an ultrasound. Huge tumor with no blood vessels attached in her abdomen. It looked like an easy surgery (only option) for the vet. She stayed overnight...

Help I'm starting to hate my puppy!!!

Hi there. Sounds like you have a puppy that doesn't know what to do with itself. As for the chewing and destructiveness- try using a tie-down. You can create this with a leash. Loop the clip-on part through the end of the leash. Shrink the loop that you have created and loop it under something...

3 Year-Old-Hen Recovering From Unsuccessful Surgery - Tips and Ideas?

Yeah. I guess this post was hoping to gather hope that there'd be something long-term we could do for her to avoid the cancer, shrink the tumor and get a few more years out of her . As for end-of-life scenarios - my goal is to keep her as comfortable as possible. If she passes overnight or we...

3 Year-Old-Hen Recovering From Unsuccessful Surgery - Tips and Ideas?

Thank you for your input and advice! It was most helpful. Do you know anyone else who may be able to help us? Would you mind looping or tagging them for me? I really want to make sure that I am doing everything correctly and helping her maintain a good quality of life while she is with me...

    First egg......or so I thought.

Yeah, that is an interesting statement. I have heard mixed comments on pine shavings, wood shavings etc. I use wood shavings because they work, but when I run out I'll probably switch because I've heard that the fine particles can irritate their eyes/nose/throat.

    First egg......or so I thought.

How funny! What bedding or material are you using in your nest boxes? I find that mine enjoy wood shavings with many different scrap pieces of juniper or twigs in their nest boxes, woven together to create a little circle around the shavings.

3 Year-Old-Hen Recovering From Unsuccessful Surgery - Tips and Ideas?

Hi BYC folks, I'm sure some of you have heard of my favorite girl, Rubi (short for Rubina). I posted a thread because I saw/felt a really strange bulge between her legs. After the protrusion grew significantly in a week, we took her to the vet (last Wednesday). The vet told us that it was a...

Two-Year-Old Hen Wheezing and making super high pitched noises! What should I do?

Thank you! Today, her voice is back to normal, thank goodness, so I am feeling better. She did not seem to have anything unusual in her crop, so that was good. Do you think that she just had a sore throat from all of that squawking? Thank you, I will keep in mind the predator defense mechanism...

Two-Year-Old Hen Wheezing and making super high pitched noises! What should I do?

Hi BYC, My 2-year-old hen has been squawking all day. She was looking at new nesting spots for herself, scratching in the dirt and pecking other chickens. She was giving a variety of odd squawks today while she went around doing normal things. I picked her up, examined her body thoroughly for...

VERY Abnormal fright and molting coming from flock - Advice please!!

Also one of our molting hens, Octavia (yes, they all have names), is pins all over. I'm concerned that with lows of 35 F and highs of 58 F with practically no sun, as their space is shaded by many trees, that she will get too cold. I'll post pics soon.

VERY Abnormal fright and molting coming from flock - Advice please!!

I checked the flock over last night for parasites. Everbody was completely normal looking. Sunshine's pins get more sparse towards the bottom of her neck, which is relieving.

Is this abnormal? Help me identify

My take on it is yes. This is normal. It has a bit of white (perfectly normal) and the liquid I don't think needs to be worried about. I hope that some other members who know this area better, will speak up and confirm. Best of luck!

HELP!!!! Exposed membrane and blood vessels!HATCHING CHICK WITH MISSING BOTTOM SHELL!

That is really funny. I'm sure instinct will take over, especially if you introduce her to her parents. I'm sure she'll be swimming and playing in the water before long! Aww. Poor baby Yeti. Cute name. I hope that he/she makes it. More pics of them both please? :fl They are both just too cute...

VERY Abnormal fright and molting coming from flock - Advice please!!

No on the external parasites, I'll check tonight. I know that she does not get pecked because she is alpha and I haven't seen any signs of pecking from anyone or on her.

VERY Abnormal fright and molting coming from flock - Advice please!!

Pics of coop: Starting from top left. These are their nesting boxes. When we got our Christmas trees this year, I gathered extra branches to make their nest boxes appealing. Top right: this is a roosting spot above their nest boxes. The wooden crate thingy (not sure what it's called) is a...
