chuckachucka This may sound silly; but how do I check inside a chickens ear? There's no obvious discharge or smell. I haven't touched it but I'll check that. The other ear and other birds seem ok. They all seem healthy this aside.
I assume whither a town is (anything) friendly would vastly vary from spot to spot more than province to province...I live rural so there really no concern :)
They're in a brooder inside the coop bedding is usually hay or husks but the ducks have a tendency to pull it out on them :/ The brooder is a meshed in kennel with a heat lamp.
Hi all. I noticed some (what looks like) bloody poop in the brooder last time I checked them; all the chicks are acting fine and are approx 4 weeks old (they're I estimate a couple weeks between the two batches but I can't be certain of exact age). I searched the forums and found that what looks...
Our average temp for the next couple weeks is estimated around 14*C with a low of 5* ( 41-57*F) with a fair bit of temperature variance from day-day and day-night
I believe the lamp just blew but I don't have a heater or heatpad or anything like that :/ It'll be approx a week before I can get...
Don't have a garage :/ We made the poultry coop out of the portable garage. I'm worried the dogs (well mostly my terrier mix) would literally scare they life out of them if I brought them inside :(
Hi I've a bit of a chicken emergency and need advice - I've four week old chicks (some mostly feathered others mostly fluff with little wings) and our heat lamp blew last night :/ we wrapped their brooder with a blanket and they all survived the night (albeit unhappily) I heard if you feed them...
hey :) I've noob questions...
I've heard you should rotate your rooster out every couple years for genetic diversity; however if your raising the offspring for meat I assume this to be mute? If so when does a roos virility drop? Also; when does a hens egg production decrees? Thanks!!
Hi all :) I got 4 more chicks Saturday and one of them seems to be missing bum down and her poop lands on her butt (as opposed to squirting to the floor). She is eating/pooping I'm just not sure what to make of this; all my other chicks are fluffy butts :/ The other chicks from this batch *may*...
There's 3 black astrolorp, 2 blue astrolorp than I just got 4 orphignton crosses from another lady; she didn't know what they were crossed with as the hen had seen a few fellas ;) I don't really know how reproduction works with chickens..would all the chicks have the same dad or might they be...
Hi :) I attempted to take pics of my chicks they're approx a month old give or take a week, 5 are australorps and 4 are an orpington cross (not sure what with). These are our first chicks and was hoping someone could help me figure out what we've got 'cause I don't know how :/ Thanks!! :) :)...
I was reading more online and from what I can tell grey eggs come from a blue/green egg being pasted with a thick bloom over it (what makes white eggs pink or brown eggs purple like the croad lanshans)
"You have to remember you need a rooster of each color too, The rooster is 50% of the egg color."
Thanks duluthralphie :) Do you know if the roo was a white layer if the easter eggers would continue to lay the coloured eggs? I imagine they eggs would get lighter with each generation regardless...
