    Roosters not crowing

How old is old? Most of my Roosters have started to "practice" around 4-5 months old. They also try to start mounting that young. It's quite funny. One of mine seemed to sound more like a dieing cow when he was learning to crow. I have another that it came a little more natural.

    Our first egg!

Congrats on the pullet eggs. The more they lay, the more they will regulate to get normal. The little brown egg is from our pullet Barred Rock. By August we'll have 19 laying hens. It's still fun to get the little eggs.

Why do you own a rooster? Take the poll.

We have a rooster for all the above reasons. Even though we've threatened to send him to freezer camp, Sometimes he has gotten overly protective of his girl's. But we still love our roo. :)

    Loki's broody adventure

By the way good luck with the hen. Also watch out for other hen's giving her more eggs to sit on...Lol Our broody hen only started with 7, then to 15, and 22. Don't worry we took at least half away when we found them and we're able to candle them.

    Loki's broody adventure

Broody hen's will get off her nest at least once a day. To do the normal, eat, drink and poop. As time goes on she will kick out any bad eggs. We had a hen go broody this past September. She was only 7 months old, she wound up being an awesome momma.

    Avid newbies

Welcome to the BYC From over in the Puyallup/South Hill area of Western Washington. We have found using sand in the run is much easier and better to use. Easy clean up and of course with the rain here in the PNW doesn't mold or mildew like straw or hay. Just little tip... Enjoy your new chicks.

I believe they do. When we started with our chick's, they suggested the brand Payback so that's what we have stuck to. Graham Feed is on Meridian and about 225th ish. Right past the railroad tracks.

    How long till I intervene?

Some time it can take up to 24 hrs after pipping. Be patient, we just hatched 14, 1 came a complete day ahead of hatch time and the last one came a day late actually.
