I googled this topic and have to put out my 2 cents worth...I asked the question on when will my two broody hens will start laying again...
First...low and behold, I'm new to this, so I notice this Buff hen, being grouchy, always had her feathers flayed out, pacing around like she had lost...
I want to thank everyone for their pics and comments...this is turning into a real cute thread.
To those who wanted me to keep the chickens seperate...I do, or rather have, but the ones I have now, are all from the same place. Like I said, it's a reunion of "coop mates" just a different...

I picked up 10 one year old laying hens this am...all red sexlinks...and one little Frizzle Roo...he's only 3 months old...Big Henry towers over him....the pecking order started as soon as they were released into general population....poor little dude is way down the bottom of the ladder in...
I get it........! and understand !....I'm the same way....As a young girl, we lived down the road from Grandmas...I'd ride my bike there and spend the day, doing all the "farm stuff" that fasinated me to no end....I just knew that some day I'd have chickens like my grandma did...
Fast forward...
No head shaking.........no eye problems.
No one has died ...yet.... either.
I'll treat them and go for the best...if they all die, I'll disinfect the new house and
start over....
I do have 5 four week old Buffs in a seperate area right now...
(child just had to have baby chicks:rolleyes:)...

I've had one BR that has had raspy breathing all winter..she still lays, eats fine, drinks ect...

I got my first turkey egg two days ago....nothing yesterday however.
Hen is a midgit white and male is a narrasette.
Egg was pretty good size, heavy feeling, and cream colored with freckles.
I also have a black spanish hen...guess she's gonna be slow to produce.

If you let your guineas roost in the trees, won't be long and you won't have guineas.

The first thing I noticed is the guineas follow around a barred rock hen...poor thing, you can see her anywhere and right behind her
is the guinea flock....LOL...and yes the guineas do lead the hens up the hillside, mine...
I have to work tonight....but hubby, after much begging, lol, will wait till they roost and take a look at it.
He thinks it sounds like he may have to finish cutting it off, dab on some "stuff" and hope it heals.

He is hopping along, sometimes putting weight on the toes of his left foot.
It looks like the back toe? spur? area has been damaged. It's sorta just hanging there.

Here is where I'm at...
I bought a broody hen, who has raised several little ones.
She was transported in a cage for 20 min...was not "stressed out"..did peck the old owner
when they picked her up off the nest...the 3 eggs with her, I kept in my lap.
I put her...
I have 12 chickens and 12 guineas and they all free range....but I keep several different size feeders out with a mixture of layer mash and cracked corn mixed together....
Throughout the day, I may throw out what ever needs to be thrownout...cept meat scraps. They eat, crackers, stale bread...
Aw yes...another guinea newbie here...but....I've had pretty good success with my flock so far..(knock on wood).
