    Run covering

How do you clean off the branches and leaves? There's no way that I can get up there and my leaf blower can only move so much.

    Run covering

I'm mainly concerned about what to use as a run roof that I can easily clean of falling debris. The coop is 100% secure from predators.

    Run covering

There are already large gaps in the roof, so I know they can get in there :) we don't have weasels. What can I put on the roof that won't obliterate the sun? I hate the chicken wire and I believe it was used as basic protection during the day as the coop itself is a fortress.

    Run covering

Hi there. My run is large and currently covered with chicken wire. It is right beneath a large oak tree and is always covered with leaves and branches. The acorns fall through. The edges were once attached (I inherited this when I moved in last year) to the existing wood fence and chain link...

    Hatching eggs

I feel really bad for Nancy. Buttercup (orp) was also broody and I split the eggs between them. I peeked in on Sunday (day 19) and saw two had started to pip! I moved mama B to a dog crate in the garage and put all eggs under her. I don't have two crates, and thought this would be best. So far...

    Hatching eggs

She started off slowly by sleeping in the favorite (of course) box and I'd say she's been in there a lot over the last few days. She's in there now while all the others are eating.

    Hatching eggs

Hi there, My hen, Nancy, has decided to go broody. I don't have a rooster and would like to put some eggs under her. Do I have time to order some or should I try to find some eggs locally? I haven't yet been successful in locating some but will keep trying! I would just hate to waste potential...

    Flooded Coop!

I had to make a wine run, so I got some free pallets at the client's warehouse. Great idea! I put one into the coop and a heavy thick piece of wood near the entrance so I can get in there. It's sunny now, yay!, but seeing as this is my first spring at this house, I know I've got some more work...

    Flooded Coop!

Hi all, it has been raining fairly consistently, but it's really going to pour through Sunday. My dirt floor coop is flooded (and most of the yard) and I had to wade in to open the doors. Can I just get sandbags to put around the bottom and add sand inside? I have a few medical issues and will...

    Sore on Comb

They have a 30 x 50 run and are free in the yard every day from sunrise to sunset. The WLRC are VERY bossy and one of my BO's has started going what I call Full Turkey to assert her chicken power. Here's a pic of part of the yard. Scarlett is the smallest hen.

    Sore on Comb

Hello Peeps, I noticed this sore on my EE Scarlett's comb. It appears that it's healing but I wanted to run it by chicken pros. Some of the other hens have a small black spot here and there, which look like little peck wounds. This one looks sort of peely. I've also uploaded a pic of Elizabeth...

    New member greetings!

Oh, I have about 5 million pics of the Bernese Mtn dogs we've had throughout the years :) I'll make a giant album one day and add puppy pics to it! They are such cute pups!

    New member greetings!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I've had a rough week as I just had to put down my favorite chickie, Po, yesterday. After scouring the site for a week for information I ended up at the vet and we decided it was probably best to put her to sleep. Poor sweetie. I'm still in tears at this...

    New member greetings!

Hello, My name is Michele and I live in Napa. Yes, I work for a small vineyard :) I moved to a new house and inherited a large run and coop and decided to put it to good use :) I bought started pullets (4 Red Lace Cornish, 2 Buff Orpington, and 2 of what I was told were Ameraucana, but look...
