I actually sold them Friday . I was sooooo DONE with their crap. I have some of their babies that are about three months old now. Time will tell whether we keep them. (I was very upfront about the issues with them, and sold them for a steal.)
Thank you! I think my 55s are on the way to the crockpot. My CL is my most reliably laying chicken. 55s are still making us crazy, and hubby is fed up with daily egg hunts. Thank goodness our ducks are laying because I’m feeding 10 hens and a roo and lucky to find one egg in the nest box every...
I have Magpie and KC hens. Rouen, KC, Magpie, and a possible Blue Runner drake.
No permit needed for Coturnix or ringneck pheasants. I'm about 35 miles from Opp, near Enterprise.
Ours got out and we thought sure they were gone. Nope, they let us walk right up to them and pick them up. I figure when they dig out again they can just free range with the chickens.
Following this. We accidentally have chukars and have already discovered they are cannibalistic jerks. I have the on the ground, though. Ours are about 3 months old.
Last night, he was still on his side and I was pretty sure he was going to be dead when I woke up, and I knew if he didn't die, I'd have to have hubby cull him, because he would be out of yolk and I couldn't figure out a way to feed and water him with him laying on his side. I dreaded looking...
(Apologies for the length!)
First, my 55s are driving me insane. I bought a flock of year-old chickens May 20th, five GFF 55 Flowery Hen hens and one roo, and 3 barred and 2 pencil Rocks. They were locked in the coop (the coop is more like a combo run/coop, 192 s ft) until May 31st with a...
I will give him some NutriDrench! He’s still on his side, poor thing. He scoots around on his side in the incubator but there’s no way I’m going to put him in the brooder. There’s 37 keets and chicks in there now (I felt the need to visit TSC today for banties and I have three week old Crested...
Tried to Google this, but I'm mostly finding spraddled or problems that develop after hatch.
My guinea keets were due to hatch TOMORROW, but when I moved them to lockdown Monday, I had several external pips and most were at least internally pipped. Two were already zipping. SO! I dry...
OK, guess I'll try it and see how it goes LOL. They've all been together since they were a few days old, but the geese definitely rule the yard! Always planned freezer camp for extra drakes but we kinda love them :barnie
So! All my birds seem to be a bit precocious! And now I have pen problems, I wasn't expecting to have right now, ugh. I thought my ducks wouldn't be interested in mating until Spring, same for the geese, BUT. The first duck egg I got was fertilized. I thought I was looking at it wrong, but...
Well, coming back to update this. I got my guineas from RK on March 27th, guessing they were maybe five days old. And yesterday we found a nest of a dozen guinea eggs after finding a few eggs (duck and guinea) scattered around the duck yard. I have six females so I don’t know how many are...
Haha he must have mixed them up. Can Chukar co-exist in an aviary with ringnecks or do I need to make them a pen? (I may give them back to him, I didn’t have a plan to have partridges lol)
Ok have had time to Google a bit and I see this is pretty normal splay legs. (Never seen it before!). I’m going to bring it to my house tomorrow and start splinting. (The owner can’t do the splinting due to only having one working arm from a stroke). Picked up hand feeding formula tonight. Wish...
That was me and it was super easy to do! The chickens come when they hear it now, too, even though I didn’t try to train them to it. I imagine the geese and ducks will learn it in the next few days, since I mostly have the guineas in their yard right now. (I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ my guineas...
They are my favorite birds. They follow me everywhere. The chickens are starting to try to follow me because they see the guineas getting treats, but me and the rooster are about to have a throw-down so they don’t get as many treats. Until I get a fence around my property or until the guineas...
Figures he's a drake. He's my favorite, I just love his color. So I have him, 4 KC drakes, 2 Rouen drakes, and a Magpie drake. Spring could get a little interesting, only have 7 females
He is solid grey/blue. There are slightly different hues on some feathers, but it's all grey. No white whatsoever. He doesn't shimmer like Cayuga seem to (I've never seen one in person, but his feathers don't appear different colors when you look at different angles.) He came from Rural...
