No, she is not bloated or overweight. I don’t see anything down her throat when I look.
I remembered this afternoon that she did have a run-in with our cat when she was tiny - she didn’t have any external wounds and seemed fine. Maybe she has a rib or lung problem that only acts up when she does...
Thank you! Casportpony helped me excellently before when one of my birds got hypothermia from mud. I will check her throat first thing in the morning - she’s up in the trees for the night.
Hello all,
Feels like I only post when I have an emergency :barnie
Oracle, a blind turkey of mine, went into a mating stance today and began wheezing significantly.
Her pattern of breathing involves a seemingly normal breath in, but her exhale is a long, strained, whistly and staggered wheeze...
Sorry for the months long delay!
Meatball has since made a full recovery. She is less accurate with her reckless bites than she used to be, but her balance and speed and regular behaviors have all returned. Thank you all so much!
She just registered as 7.0 lbs as opposed to Saturday’s 7.1. Her physical condition/coordination/maneuverability has improved significantly, though. I wouldn’t be surprised if the strain of recovering stopped weight gain?
We’ve been weighing her using a human weight scale by finding the difference of my weight vs weight when I’m holding her. I will go get her and weigh her in a moment.
Doing well! She’s been outside with the other birds all afternoon and still has a wobble to her gait but all in all has yet to ‘shut down’ or exhibit any of the super limiting behavior from yesterday. She can jump up and drop down without crashing over now, and I even saw her preening today...
Update! It was 52 out today and Meatball is now conscious enough to cry about being alone so I took her out to be near the turkey coop this afternoon. She had the coordination to run around and while she wasn’t vocal she obviously loved being near the other birds again and her coordination...
Yes, I poured some pedialyte directly into the bowl as she ate and she kept scarfing
Edit: Actually I poured some corn dust on top of straight water and she ‘ate’ it. She’s not doing the drinking motions, but :weeshe’s definitely getting fluids
Got it! The tube is 16 in long. I’m making hot mash for her now - I’ll let you know if she eats it. She still is asleep constantly but now is sleeping standing up - I’m sure that’ll help her balance come back over time.
Edit: the gurgling stopped around 11:30 last night. She now talks to us and...
She can also balance enough to walk as well, with some wobble. Much better than faller over. What diameter or tube should I look for, I have a soft rubber tube from a prior dental fiasco with I’d say a 3mm opening.
Excellent news! She is standing and screaming this morning - mostly for food. She pooped 4 times in the night, here’s a picture.
She still will refuses to drink on her own, but adamantly wants food. I will go buy the pipe and syringe in an hour. What’s the plan for today? When can I feed her?
No dice. I’ll try again in the morning - she seems to be settling in to sleep. I’m keeping her in a dog crate a safe distance from the fire - we’ll relight it in the morning to keep it up to 80 in there.
Here you go - she is hissing at my cat in this. I didn’t make it to 200mL but don’t want her to be without food all day. Do I still try to give her water? Or do I wait for the gurgle to stop?
