    Lethargic chick w/ closed eyes!

New thought: clostridium perfringens? I'll try to get a pic of poop tomorrow, but to me that's what it resembled the most. Seedy and watery. I couldn't quite understand how to describe it so I looked at a poop chart(who knew?) Just not certain of the other symptoms of clostridium perfringens.

    Lethargic chick w/ closed eyes!

She is probably around 5 weeks old give or take few days. My property does have a history of Marek's, which is why i mention it. They were at a different property up until about 2 weeks ago to build up some strength, but Marek's is a special kind of monster. My thought was coccidiosis, too after...

    Lethargic chick w/ closed eyes!

Ok guys, I think I may be starting to see the effects of Marek's, or maybe it's something else entirely, but my sweet little brabanter is not doing too well. She won't open her eyes, and they don't seem red or swollen, she's lethargic and has some pretty nasty feathers on her back. There is no...

What are they? (Sexing and breed question)

So recent development with my frizzle cochin... I think I have myself a strapping young cockerel. More color in wattles and comb, and more of them. The black one hasn't changed a bit so I'm still on the fence; the vote is 1 for pullet and 1 for cockerel. For Drizzle the Frizzle I'm throwing my...

What are they? (Sexing and breed question)

Haha exactly! I hate to admit it, but I agree that they are hens. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on my chicken dealer. There is one more from the straight run group but it seems like a runt. Nearly a third the size of the rest. It's probably the rooster :p

What are they? (Sexing and breed question)

I am at a loss here. I have two cochins that I cannot figure out what sex they are for the life of me. They gotta be about 4-6 weeks old by now. I am hoping at least one is a rooster, because I LOVE cochin roosters, and I need a man to protect my ladies. Help. Please! Here's one: And the...

    Hello chicken lovers!

Hi there! While I am new to the BackYard Chickens community, I am not brand new to chickens. I got my first chickens roughly 4 years ago, and sadly haven't had much luck. My first flock was killed in a barn fire, and my second flock was a bit unexpected, and plagued with Marek's. Now, I am...

    Cleaning up post-Marek's

Hi, all! I am in desperate need of your wisdom. It is sort of a long story how I acquired Marek's on the property, but I'll try to keep it concise. My friend had an old english mix hen who had an uncanny ability to lay and hatch out eggs. This hen went missing, they thought she had been killed...
