Thanks! No specific injury that I know of, and I can't find any difference between the legs and feet, I have felt all the way up to the pelvis. It always comes on gradually but this is def. the worst flare up. She has a ramp up to the inside of the coop, and also to the roost/nesting boxes...
Hi everybody, I have been searching through the limping hen threads, and there are alot! Most seem to be focused on chicks though. Anyways, here's my question:
I have a 2 1/2 year old plump beautiful and healthy RIR mix that has been limping on and off for over a year. I mean, she will limp one...
Thanks! As soon as I get my kid to bed I'll peruse the thread. I brought her inside to cool off and she looks much improved. Set her up with some fresh watermelon which she turned her nose up at, but that could just be because she is in the house in a dog crate. Major chicken insult!!
Sorry guys, this question is probably always on here, but I am chasing a toddler around and can't browse the posts. My Two year old hen started mildly limping yesterday evening, and today it is worse. She is eating, but less voraciously than usual ( she is my "eat anything" girl) Also she seems...
I am thinking of doing meat birds next spring and am looking for ideas for a collapsable coop that fits around 12 meaties. I am in a suburban setting with a regular sized back yard, and possums and racoons in the area. Thanks!
I know that this is a VERY old thread, I was searching for lice info since I found some on a new bird that I bought. I thought I would throw in my two cents as a small animal vet tech ( new to the chicken world though!) Frontline spray actually does not translocate ( move to other areas of the...
wow the inside looks so nice and clean! I have also noticed that if the chickens and dog can't see each other, the dog isn't so "visually stimulated" and has actually forgotten how much he wants to eat them. even though he can still smell and hear them. the metal is a great idea, I would have...
Love it! This was exactly what I envisioned as my dream coop until we built it then discovered my dog did nothing but race around it and terrorize the girls. So we sold it and built fort knox.

I'm only allowed one more according to the city ( 4 total) - so many breeds, which one will get the coveted spot? Do two banties count as one standard?

The only problem I have had is that water runs down the roof into the nesting boxes, because I didn't leave an eve on the back ( I couldn't figure out how to leave an eve and attach the wire to the roof) So then I had to add some flashing that forces that rain water to run off the...

Oh yeah, sorry, I wanted a texas flag but also wanted to incorporate a chicken somehow, and thats what I came up with. I guess its the lonestar funky chicken!
I finally finished my coop! With my Mom hubby and 16 month old daughter helping me it still took a few months to totally finish. (painting and everything)Well, it started as "chicken shangri-la" but it had so many wrong angles and measurements that we started calling it the Funky Chicken. Its...
They have a roost in the coop that they don't like at all, and one in the run that they love but they may feel too exposed on? Also, I have looked around in the run for aome kind of little animal and haven't found one, but the run is right up aganst a shed, maybe something crawls under there...
At dusk, my approx 15 week old pullets mill around in their run, very agitated. They are trying to "escape" (impossible) and sticking their necks trough the wire, flying at the roof, etc. Its very strange! Then when it gets dark they go to bed in their coop.
I agree, I kind of thought they were too big to be mites, in my experience as a vet tech with dogs and cats you can only see mites on a microscope But they ARE wierd bugs, anybody have any idea what they are? I may buy some sevin dust but I am hesitant to use it in the nesting boxes where...
I was cleaning my nesting boxes out today for my 14 week old pullets, because they are actually starting to go in them for the first time to "practice" I have had some hay in there for a few weeks before this just to make them inviting but this is the first time I've needed to clean them. I...
