I just wanted to let you all know that my boss (on the farm) decided to take the chick tonight and get some of her contacts to look at her. She’s been brought back to me with a bit more hope. There’s a lady who is a poultry specialist coming to have a look at her tomorrow as they want to give...
Thank you. She thought that it looks like a hatching injury. Either occurred inside the egg or maybe during hatching. She’s seen something similar with an assisted hatch, but the person we got them off is a young lad and just keeps telling me they were fine when he had them. So I haven’t pushed...
Just been to the vets and unfortunately it’s not good. The chicks wing has gone in to necrosis and it’s spreading to the other wing. Because their bones are hollow, whatever it is, can spread quickly. She said antibiotics won’t work and if she amputated the wing, she doesn’t think that would...
Yeah ofcourse. I’ve had lots of people recommend bathing and spraying, which is what is most likely do at work. But, these are the kids pets and wouldn’t like to take a risk :(
He had them under a lamp, which was quite high when I went in to them. We have a heat plate, but again is high as it’s so hot here atm. Have booked her in the vets for tomorrow as I don’t want to be poking it and she ends up losing her wing or something.
I have no idea. We picked her up Sunday when she was two days old. She had the darkened wing then but we just thought it was her colouring until we checked her over the following day. I contacted the person we get them from (more to just get advice) and he said they were fine when they were with...
The wing seems to have stiffened up a fair bit which made it even harder to look underneath again. After moving some fluff I found this on top of the wing
I gave it a bathe and took a pic quick before I dried the area as you can see it better whilst it was still a bit wet. I’m not able to get a pic of under the wing by myself so will try again when my other half is home. Chick doesn’t show any signs that he’s bothered by my touching or moving his...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking of bathing it or spraying with antiseptic spray, but wouldn’t like to do it until I’ve had some advice as I wrong want to make it worse
Hi!
We picked up four 2 day old (now 3 days) polish chicks and straight away noticed one had a darker wing than the others. We thought it was just a quirk, but decided to look closer and noticed the wing looked injured and a bit gammy. The pics aren’t the best I’m afraid (poor phone camera)...
:love What a cutie!!!
We decided on buying this time round, but will try again to incubate. We think we know where we messed up.
We picked up these little guys today
Unfortunately, none of them have made it. It was our first try and I think we may have messed up somewhere. We’re so gutted :(
We’re now debating do we do it all again or just look for some hatchlings.
