Thank you for helping,
I can feel some hard areas near the top front and squishy in the front of her. They feel small. I tried giving her olive oil on a spoon mixed with water, she is not too fond of it, I did massage the area a little bit.
She is the same this morning, her crop seemed smaller, but it has some hard areas, I gave her some fluids this morning and now the crop is squishy, I massaged a little and put her back. I gave some poly visol in the water, I am afraid of putting it in the beak. She stays huddle under the...
Thank you for answering, I felt her/his crop tonight and it was a little hard then tried to give her water and olive oil, she/he didn't like that but took a bit the crop felt squishy afterwards, I tried to massage it, it is large, poor thing. I don't think she is eating much though. I...
That is what I am thinking, we have shavings in there. What is the solution now, I pushed on the crop this morning and water came out, but I had to leave, so don't know if I should continue to do that. Suggestions are welcomed.
Hi,
She has been eating medicated chick food and every other day a mix of feed, hardboiled eggs and olive all ground up, I am wondering if she did not ingest some shavings. I pushed on the crop a little bit this morning and some clear fluid(water) came up, but I had to leave.
Hello,
I have a 3 week old silkie chick, she started this past weekend sitting around with eyes closed. Doesn't move around. I have hand fed her water with antibiotics and give her vitamins. Sometimes she perks up a little but sits under the lights. Sometimes she eats a little but not much...

It is clear like water and I don't believe it is it's drinking water because it's always there, it is just ther not dripping down the beak, at least not yet. Would vitamins in the water be helpful?
I have 2 four day old silkies. I noticed today one had a little water/wetness on his/her nostril so I wiped it, when it's on the nostril he/she shakes it's head to remove it, have not noticed sneezing yet, and it does eat and drink. Should I add vitamins to water or let it be? It is on...
Thank you Jim,
I hope you are right. It is very difficult to watch, I eventually had to walk away, after having picked them up, of course. These birds are so friendly and sweet. I just can't understand why this is starting to happen, unless he wants to start mating, which I haven't seen...
I don't know if this is the correct forum, but today I noticed my very friendly silkie rooster and my silkie hen fighting. They would both hold on to each others feathers around the face and actually the rooster was bleeding a bit from his comb. I couldn't separate them, because they would go...
Thank you to all of you for the responses. I guess I'll just have to be patient. He is the only roo in the bunch, and he is the same age as some of the hens, others a few months older. The hens are laying. Good to hear silkies take longer and he is still maturing.. He doesn't have the typical...
I have an 8 month old silkie rooster 4 silkie hens and a cochin hen. I have never seen the rooster try to mate, once in awhile he will nudge the hen in the face but thats it. I don't know if it makes a difference but he was the runt, very very tiny when born, he has caught up to the hens size...
Hi,
At what age can you tell what color a chick will be? I have 9 silkie chicks 1 1/2 weeks old, some look brownish, some have a yellowish/beige color with a dark ban down their back. I don't know the parantage colors, they were mixed.
Also if they have a nice round vault at this age, would...
Thank you, everyone, for the great info. I am going to try the baggie thing and see what happens. Next I need to learn to candle. Friday will be day 7...
I have some silly putty with its egg container, would that work? Do I put the probe inside the putty and into the egg, then lay it on the wire???
Thanks
