    Disabled Chickens as Indoor Pets

Please if you have experiences with housing and helping your disabled chickens who can’t live outside with the flock, share your stories. How can you let them suffer and slowly die? That’s barbaric. This was intended to be a PET post.

    Disabled Chickens as Indoor Pets

I took in a disabled chick a couple months ago. He had a slipped tendon that couldn’t be fixed. He can’t walk but he gets around by flinging himself with his good leg and flapping. We’ve tried slings, round donut beds, etc but he hadn’t tolerated anything. He’s the most comfortable making...

    Help Sexing Muscovy

Can Muscovy be sexed by appearance at 7 weeks old? There’s a big size difference with these two. Their feet are the same size and they are feathering in at about the same rate. The larger one is more friendly and loves to come up to me.

Does this behavior mean she’ll start up laying again soon?

Hello! My hen hatched and raised some babies that are about 5 or 6 weeks old now. They’re very independent and she isn’t calling them over much anymore. The hen started doing the egg song a couple days ago randomly. It’s a few times a day. She just stands in the middle of the yard and sings her...

    Can Easter Eggers be yellow?

Here is my yellow EE baby grown up now. She has brown specks in the wings and hackles. Hard to see though.

    Polish, silkie, a cross?

It’s a pure silkie. All the silkie mixes I’ve seen have smooth feathers, not the regular silkie fluff.

Can anyone tell me what breed my rooster is?

He is definitely a mix. Looks like he has some Wyandotte in him.

    Need confirmation on breed.

If it has a pea comb it’s a dark Brahma.

    Can Easter Eggers be yellow?

Easter eggers can come in many colors as they’re a mixed breed. I have an almost pure white one that was very light as a chick, and a blue one.

    Is this an Blue Ameraucana?

Yes it appears to be an Ameraucana or at least an Easter Egger if they don’t carry true ameraucanas. It has dark legs and a beard. The baby patterns can vary a little bit.

Is she a Saxony or Buff?

The blue and white one is my runner. She is molting now so she doesn’t look super great. I have an older pic of her :)

Is she a Saxony or Buff?

Oh yes she’s definitely a lady. She’s not as loud as the other girls but she does quack. I still need to ask the feed store which hatchery they buy from. Some clearer pics of her face:

Is she a Saxony or Buff?

    She shouldn’t be a mix; she’s from a hatchery.
  14. Chickenraiser1995

Is she a Saxony or Buff?

Here she is about 11-12 weeks old. She’s large compared to the runner and Campbell. She’s honestly about the same size as the pekin girl!

Backyard Mix Cockerels for meat: what to feed?

I want to grow out the male chicks I have to butcher. They’re mixed with marans, australorp, and EE. What diet should I feed them and what age is best to butcher?

Is she a Saxony or Buff?

I’m still trying to figure out if my duck is a buff or Saxony. I’ve had mixed answers. She does quack so I’m certain she’s a girl.
  17. Chickenraiser1995

    Can you ID this duckling?

This is how she is looking now! Such a pretty duck. She is just starting to quack a little. One of the Pekins quacks regularly.

    Fake broody behavior?

She hasn’t budged off her nest since she went back in. Settled down really snug and she won’t move lol I guess this is it! Thanks guys

    Fake broody behavior?

Her broody behavior is more intense today if that makes sense. She laid an egg a couple hours ago and is now back in the coop in her nest. Extra growls and screeches. I’m guessing if not today then very very soon she’ll set! I have plenty of eggs for her to hatch.. hopefully this year they make it.
