Sorry for the long absence. I have one of my sebright hen's two years old. She decided to set on eggs a few weeks ago so I let her. I gave her 12 eggs. They started hatching three days ago. She decided to sit in an elevated box so I blocked it off so the chick,s could not fall. Today I went in...
My flock of Sebrights will be up to 9 shortly with one Roo. I was wondering If I hatch some Bobwhite eggs would the chickens tolerate them in the same coop?
I am running two hot wires. One about 10" and one about 15" off the ground all the way around the run. Maybe 120' total. My coop is hardened and the run is all Hardwire cloth. I have had deaths from Weasels and coon this year. Hoping all the combined security will prevent further deaths.

One came out of it just fine. I ended up having to put the other down. She had bad head injuries and could not walk. I tried giving water and food but she could barley keep her head up.
I did dispatch the coon that did the killing yesterday. I caught another in the live trap last night. It will be dispatched also as well as all future catches. I have hardened my coop and encased the run with hardwire cloth due to a weasel attack several months ago. This coon got in through the...
They are on lock down now and I have one live trap baited. They are not going to like it but till I know I have this under control. I had one hen setting on eggs for 11 days. The girls are rattled and she whet to the roost after this. I moved the eggs to the incubator.
I have 4 surviving hens from last year and had 7 new 8 week old chicks in their own area in the coop. I let the adult girls out during the day and leave the little door open for them to come and go. I walked out around 6:30 and my boss hen came running across to yard to me squawking her head...
I just did a test. I stood out side the coop/run for a few minutes, the girls came out cautiously long enough to get a treat then went back in. I was just getting covered with gnats as well as the girls. Then I went inside the run serounded by Bounce dryer sheets and did not have one gnat land...
