I haven't posted here in a long time, due to having to re-home my own chickens a few years ago.
I'm still not able to keep chickens, but it has come to my attention that there are two hens abandoned at a foreclosed home in Eustis, FL. Apparently there was also a rooster, but it seems that he...
Thank you so much for the picture and update Sharon, it's nice knowing what a great home and wonderful caretaker the hens have. Tell your mom that I appreciate how good she is to them, and that I'm glad she enjoys having them.

Wow, it looks great! Your property is beautiful, and I think they're going to love it there. I feel so lucky to have found someone as generous as you and your mom; you've taken a lot of the worry and stress out of rehoming my hens, thank you!
I'm going to be moving from New Hampshire to Florida in about a month or so. I won't be able to keep my flock of four pet hens where I'm moving to, so I would like to find them a loving home.
The reason I'm not rehoming them in my area is because two of the hens are originally from Florida...
What do you mean by "pecking themselves"? Are they pulling feathers out? They might just be preening, which is normal behavior and would make sense if a lot of new feathers are growing. When they preen, they're using their beak to remove the casing that covers feathers when they first grow...
A vitamin D supplement I have came with the same kind of instructions. Instead of trying to figure out how much of the straight supplement to add (which would be very small and hard to measure), I made a solution according to the instructions and added the correct amount of that to each gallon...
I also recommend using an electric collar. My family recently adopted a five year old sheltie, and when we got her she was a squirrel chaser, and would lunge and bark at the chickens through their fence whenever she saw them. This was last winter, so I wasn't letting the chickens out to free...
Sorry I don't know much about poly-vi-sol. Does it have an expiration date? If it will stay good for a long time, maybe you could save it for the next ill chicken.
What about instead giving them Avia Charge 2000? It's made for poultry, and would be good for your whole flock.
These are the places that I know of to get it.

I use shavings in the winter, and hay in the summer. The shavings seem to stay cleaner, and my chickens will eat a lot of hay in the winter if I let them. It doesn't seem to have affected them, but it makes me worry since I've had crop problems with other chickens in the past.
Couldn't this cause botulism? I mean if the chickens are eating the maggots, then aren't they getting some of what the maggots are eating? And if it's rotting meat, that can't be good for them.

Neat!
The first two pictures are the same mushroom, and I don't think It's at all related to the one in the third picture. I don't remember if the fourth one had gills, pores, or what.
