Have 2 brooding hens on on for the 4th day the other just started third day but she has been off for more then 12 hours. As a newbie and not thinking I wanted little chicks can anyone give me some guidelines?
We are finally almost done. Built a new barn with 2 coops inside the bar, Both have their own covered run. And both have access to an open fenced in are to roam. On the other side of the 4 foot fence is pasture land.
They have been using the coops and runs for about a month while outside...
Building coop inside of the new barn- it will be 10 x 12. It will have a cement floor. What do I out on the cement? Next box.

what would you use for the flooring- sand, cement?
what would you use for nesting boxes- homemade or commercial bought?
Im sorry new here- it was suppose to say is I thought I saw on here somewhere where they have a sale each Saturday and chickens are sold outside by owners looking to get rid of some of their chickens.
Thanks for the quick reply. I agree that I do not want to jump in and not be prepared. Thats why I want to make sure "I have all my chicks in a row" first.
Hello. I am getting ready to retire and my grandson wants to start raising chickens. We have the land to do free range and would like to start small and start the process of teaching him responsibility for taking care of animals. Any suggestions are welcome.
