Anyone else ever seen those moths eating chicken poo at night time? Didn't really look to see which kind. Just walk in with a bright flashlight and you'll see a tiny sparkle. That is their two little biddy eyes. It is also possible to spot spiders this way very easily so watch out.
What's going on with my hen?
I thought it may have been a piece of debris in the eye but it kinda looks like her 3rd eyelid is torn and causing aggravation. The right eye is fine.
I've been flushing the eye with normal saline solution. I don't know what else to do. Is there something in the...
Anyone else have a hard time getting vegetable seeds to sprout this year?
I've had a terrible time this year for some reason and I don't think it's me since I've never really had any problems like this before. All are new seeds packed for 2020 and came from Lowes or Walmart. Usually new seeds...
While looking at what people are describing on pictures, such as poop and eyes and such, the zoom feature sucks in my opinion. :thThe pics are generally higher quality than what I can zoom in with one click. When using the browsers zoom feature it just zooms in the icons and leaves the pic alone...
I brood my chicks outside in a metal shed where temps can fluctuate wildly. I have a dimmer on two 125w heat lamps that I keep an eye on and adjust accordingly, but I'm always trying to improve on it so I don't have to babysit it as much. I have a wafer thermostat that I can use to turn off the...
Anyone ever use the fermented water from fermenting grains in chicks drinking water?
I don't plan on giving them the grains, just the water part. I have some cracked corn that I can ferment and strain the water off. Can I use it straight or do you need to cut it with water? How much?

I have a good size fenced in garden that I split it into two parts, a "chicken area" and a "garden area". The "garden area" is fenced off from the chickens during garden season but is open for the chickens during the off garden season. I grow crimson clover for the winter in the "garden area"...
I've seen where some folks are still looking for the dewormer Wazine that was discontinued. Well today I ran into this at my local Walmart and decided I would share.
Looking at the label it is 50 mg/ml Piperazine base as Piperazine Citrate. It is weaker than Wazine and would require a fair...
I have run upon a few articles that the images are missing such as:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/thermostat-modification.48426/
There were a couple more articles but I don't remember the exact place.
Where did they go? Was it the sitewide update or just on my end?
I have one of those cheap 8x8' metal buildings that I brood out of. Since metal buildings can get pretty hot inside when the sun hits it, I am going to make a small waterproof metal door out of my shed/brooder so the chicks can escape the heat when this happens, something like doggy door. I have...
Anyone have any dosing info for poulty with Anthelcide EQ wormer or any experience with it?
https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/pfizer-anthelcide-eq-oxibendazole-paste-85-oz-tube
I can't find much on it for poultry. Only for horses, cows and dogs. I'm looking around at different things to...
Skunks must be kinda like rats because I just witnessed a skunk go through a fence panel with 3.25" square holes. It took a little effort to fit through but really wasn't any problem. It was nearly full grown and not a baby skunk I might add.
Was thinking of creating an article, but I cant find a way to insert or create a table. I would have to make a table to keep my data (alot of it) neatly arranged and displayed. Is there a way to make a table?
I have 5 white leghorn hens and today I noticed they all have orange-ish eyes except for one that has blue eyes. Well now I think about it I didn't check to see if the other eye was blue or not.
Is this normal to see?
Im saving eggs to incubate. Ive candled the ones I have collected, about 9, and one of those does not have an air cell. Does this mean anything? Should I plan on leaving it out?
Went out to replenish the chickens water this morning and found these worms at the bottom of the container. May be hard to see but they have a little bitty black head or tail. I change the water out every morning. This winter has been very wet here and expecting more rain if that has something...
I come into the site via: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/, from there I go into the subforums such as "Coop & Run - Design, Construction, & Maintenance" with a new window and look through the new posts that interest me. When done I'll close that window and click the icon next to "Coop &...
