OK Art- I have the Woods coop so will not be able to seal all the openings to only having 1 or 2. Ill try the fan going crosswise first, directing the air to front and side screens, not front to back where there is no openings.
thanks everyone! i think i’ll use most of your suggestions and no water. i like the 2 blower system that RonP uses but i’ll start out with a big fan blowing into coop while i use the blower inside. i’ll let you know how this works! thank you!
well this will make my life easier! i thought a yearly wash down was a must! i’ve used the blower before but it seems to just stir it up instead of remove it. How about vacuuming?
Hi all,
i’m getting ready for the big spring clean on my elevated coop. Have any of you installed a floor drain to sweep the dirty water into? after washing it down? i usually use a wet/dry vac but was thinking this might be easier. if so how did you rodent proof it?
thank you!
They are all acting fine. Eating and drinking well. Here are pics from today. It’s the first time I’ve seen a rusty color stool. Also did you notice crystals like in the poop? What is that? From the safeguard? I use sand in the run. Crops all feel fine. I gave a pea size drop to each on bread...
Hi all-
I have a flock of 19 birds half are 18 months old and the other half are 6 months. and several of them have had very watery diarrhea. I treated them all with safeguard 2 times 10 days apart. It’s been 8 days since the last treatment and some are still having very loose stool. Do I...
I could keep them in the run for the 24 hours. It’s safe. But then would I move hen and chicks to a dog crate that’s in the coop? Or move them to brooder in garage?
Hi all, I’ve only been raising chicks for 1 year so need to still learn a lot! I just so happen to have a broody hen when my nine new chicks arrived in the mail on Tuesday and I’m wondering if I should put them together. I’ve read about doing it in the evening but I’m not sure where it should...
Hi all,
I'm wondering if you can give me your opinion on this feed? It is from a local farmer. Here's the analysis:
What concerns me is that there is DE in this feed and I have heard very conflicting opinions on this. What is your opinion please?
thanks so much,
Betsy
Hi- nice project! Makes your work easy! I’m trying to make a watered from an igloo 5 gallon container as well and I’m wondering what you used in the coolers hole so it doesn’t leak. Mine keeps leaking!
Thank you!
Thanks Kris5902. Maybe I should put a fan in there to help dry it. It probably didn’t dry all the way before the rain came. I think I will mix more lime in also to make it thicker and use less water.
Humidity now is 67%.
Correction on “moisture seeping through walls”. I don’t think it seeped through the walls as the walls I have whitewashed still feel dry. Maybe I should paint instead.
It was not a heavy rain. The monitor windows do open out and there are battens covering the cracks on the outside. The walls that I didn’t Limewash yet feel dry. Maybe the air moisture damped the whitewash? Or whitewash was not completely dry? Or maybe whitewash doesn’t work in a woods coop?
Oh no! It rained last nite and this morning and it looks like the moisture seeped through the walls! The lime wash is faded but worse is that moisture gets in so easily. The monitor windows were open, door and side windows closed. Isn’t this bad?!!!
