If there's one thing you need when raising chickens it's a sense of humor!
I don't view my chickens as farm animals or as pets, they are my friends....I know, I need to get out more! It never ceases to amaze me how much personality these guys have.
Here's my feed mix (per 100lbs or %)...
Interesting article, thanks for sharing your experience....and sense of humor! I too have been experimenting with fermented feed, though I don't feed commercial food to my chickens since I have a mixed flock of roosters, hens and chicks who all share the same feeders. My concern with...
Those are some very sweet looking birds, some unusual ones too, shame about the roo he's a cutie pie! That's a great pic of your son! Is Annie a Serama?
I'm having trouble uploading pics of Sully from my phone, will try again tomorrow.
Nothing wrong with sillyhood...who wants to be mature...
I will take some pics of him soon, he's so gorgeous and such a doll with me..breaks my heart to let him go.
If you don't mind me asking, what kind of setup would he be going to if you were to take him?
I have an absolutely beautiful blue birchen maran that needs a new home. He is 4 months old and very sweet, he loves to have a good shoulder rub at roost time. I bought him as a day old chick from Greenfire Farms and he is absolutely show worthy or would be great for breeding.
I am in...
Thank you so much for your reply. Honestly, I was surprised that she (not sure if she is a she yet but let's just say) was still with us this morning. By lunch time I thought that she was for sure a gonner, the poor little thing is gasping for air. Then this evening I took her some scrambled...
Thank you for your reply. My poor little chick has taken a turn for the worst, now it is unable to stand at all and has to be supported otherwise it falls into a very awkward position and cannot move. Having done some more research I am now thinking that there is a very real possibility that it...
Hi everyone,
I noticed several days ago that one of my 7 week old Dampierres was acting a little odd, fluffed up, not moving around too much and some caking around the vent. I bathed the vent area and chopped a few feathers that were too caked, but whilst doing so noticed that the vent seemed...
I started out with 2 RIR (Rhubarb and Toe Jam) and 2 Buff Orpingtons (Custard and Wendelle). The 2 RIR are peas in a pod, go everywhere together and have very similar personalities. Rhubarb is queen of the roost, not bossy but everyone knows who's boss. They are gorgeous (dark mahogany with...
Barney the cockerel is such a cutie pie (updated pic coming shortly) but he's almost afraid of his own shadow! He's a friendly bird, when I try to pick him up he puts on a bit of a show like he's trying to run away and then he turns around and grabs my finger and shakes it. In reality if he...
She's a sun queen! I had to take this picture real quick before one of the other Brahmas tried to nestle under her wing. Love these birds...can be very vocal, I get heckled every time I open the back door!
How nice it is to be part of a community...I thought the term community was an outdated concept these days! Chickens and all things chicken are like a drug, I find myself totally obsessed by them at times.
Good to be here, thank you!
I'm guessing the one in the middle is a rooster Brahmachicken24? Do you ration your Brahmas or feed free choice? Just interested to know how much more they eat than other chickens.
