I have had 5 hens and a rooster for a few years now. This year I decided to add 4 new hens. They were integrated into the flock about 3 weeks ago and are just beginning to lay. The new babies are in their own coop but in the same run. All seemed well until 2 days ago. The entire flock (except...
Little Runt (my drake) is almost a year old. He's a Mallard Khaki mix. He has 4 ladies but is obsessed with the one he has been with since hatching. He follows her everywhere she goes. He mates all the ducks but never leaves the ones side. For some reason when one particular duck comes around...
Work has been super busy so I haven't had a chance to update on the babies. To refresh memories: One of my Khaki's decided to sit on eggs and a week before hatch changed her mind. I scooped up the eggs and incubated. Mom is Khaki Campbell and dad is Mallard. 2 hatched but 1 had several issues...
Picked up 2 babies from TSC. Looks to be a Pekin and a khaki campbell. They are a little older than my loner but it doesn't seem to matter. Everyone is happy and doing well. My hatched baby looks like his dad (mallard) for the most part except there are 2 black lines on the face, a yellow dot on...
:(Very sad morning. Checked on the egg when I got up and the duckling had passed away. He had made a good sized whole in the egg and had started to zip. His beak was sticking out of the egg so I'm really not sure what happened. Went to check on the other 2 in the brooder and the clubbed foot...
Egg is still chirping loudly. The dark has made its way up to the air shack. I think it's the duckling and some how it is against the shell. Not sure what happened to the membrane but I can see it moving.
I haven't been on FB yet. He took 2 bites of food and does drink but he can't do either on his own due to not being able to keep his legs under him. He keeps them out behind him. I will upload some videos later this evening.
I'm looking for anyone who has experience in disabled ducks and how to help him, who would be willing to take him in and give him the best life possible. I'm not convinced he can be helped.
Not on the egg. Still chirping but no pip. I have major concerns about the clubbed foot baby. There is more wrong than just feet. This little guy cannot hold duck posture. His neck is crooked and instead of trying to move his legs he jerks his whole body when trying to walk. He prefers to be on...
I'm not sure if you remember but I believe we chatted on a post about momma (Lily) back in April, when she had a mystery illness. Lily is a Khaki Campbell. Dad (Roan) is the black duck in my profile pic he's a Mallard. You may remember him from the same thread, as that was when I brought him...
I did not make a hole in it. The duckling has internally pipped now so I think it will be able to hatch on its own. If the chirps begin to sound faint or like the duckling is in trouble I will. I have been researching the different ways to correct the clubbed feet. I'm confident one foot will be...
This is my video. This is the one with clubbed feet hatching. Look at the egg at the end. That's the one with the dark spot. I just removed the 2 that hatched from the incubator and I hear chirps coming from the egg in question! Still no pip. Fingers crossed!!
It gets worse. One of the babies feet are both clubbed. One looks like a shoe will fix it but the other looks like it actually grew turned to the side.
