Something is taking one of our free range chickens every day.

Any suggestions. We have lost five of our free range chickens in about a week. We just find some feathers. This is happening during the day. Fox or Coyote? No carcass left behind. Not raccoon. I'm going to keep them in their coop for at least a few days. I'd shoot it if I could see it and...

Help a yankee out. How do you manage a rooster. Mine was so aggressive. we had 11 hens for him. He still was rough on them and attacked all of our family. Any suggestions? I would like to have a self sustaining flock some day. We let them free range.

    building my first coop!

That looks like it should be just fine. Chickens are very hardy. I'm in central Ohio and we only give them some heat when it goes -10 or more. Vinal floor has been good for me but I would not do vinyl sides. Heat is worse for chickens than cold.

    Hi from NC!:)

Welcome! That sounds just like my first flock, minus the rooster. Our second flock, we got a rooster that was, unexpected. The rooster was cool at first and we liked the prospect of having our own chicks. Soon our rooster got SUPER aggressive. I mean my wife was using a garage can as a...

@FrankieDoodle Have you been raising quail long? Any success breeding them? My wife and best friend gave me 75 for my birthday and we released them on our property. That winter was the coldest on record and none were seen or heard next spring. But hope springs eternal, I wouldn't mind trying...

Greetings fellow chicken lovers, joining the flock.

Good idea! I can partition the coop with some chicken wire. I have golden laced wyandottes, wellsummers, easter eggers and rhode island reds. This is my third flock. Thanks for the excellent idea.

Are you raising quail? Tell us about it? I have wanted to try and get a wild population established on our property.

    HELP! CHICKEN MISSING!

Like 50-45-1 said, the fox got her. A fox leaves no evidence and takes the prey back to it's den. They are especially aggressive/bold in early spring when they have pups. So sorry for your loss.

Greetings fellow chicken lovers, joining the flock.

Greetings, I have been visiting BYC for over five years but just joined today. I have 12, 6 week old chicks in the brooder right now and three older girls in the big coop from a previous flock. I joined today because I was looking for advice as to when and how to put them together. I have a...
