I was off work for awhile and bought some store brand layer at Petclub because it was on sale, and funny enough my chickens are doing really well on it. I'm getting more eggs than ever, nice hard shells, and they like the pellets (which are a little smaller and they eat without throwing...
Love the homeade plucker!! I have seen similar things that can be boughgt, for much less than the tub style, but the reviews were not great. Can you share more details on how this works. Do you think the flat fingers work better than the commercial nubby ones? What speed do you use for the...
October 9th, 2010-
Hi my name is Lori and this is our first year with chickens. My boyfriend Norm and I (now husband, married on July 10, 2010) bought a house on 1 1/4 acre last year and I decided I wanted some chickens this spring. Norm grumbled but said we could get a few. We argued back and...
I am inspired by your ideas! Are the tires just to raise the plants up so the chickens can't reach them, or for ease of planting(less digging) or both? Do you just let the tomatoes/squash ripen and fall off on their own?

I had to laugh at this! I had the same experience when trying to switch mine to pellets last year. I also decided crumbles were "great" and never looked back.
However, I do agree on the water, I think they will drink it if it is the only water available. Tho being stubborn creatures...
Just had to add my two cents since no one has mentioned Rotties. Both my rotts were over 2 years already when I adopted them. I only had to show them the chickens were "mine" and they have been very good with my flock. I do not hesitate to leave them alone with my birds and have done so for over...
UPDATE: My chickens love this food, and I am getting better egg production than before, even tho it is extremely hot out. I am very happy and hope they continue carrying this brand!!! I did some research and found other good reviews also
I ordered the standard/large size hen savers (for my australorp, welsummer and barred rocks, but they are too short. They only measure 7" from front to back, and did not cover the area by the tail that was getting pecked by others. Just some info so others can measure first.

How do you tell what a chickens "crop" is full of? I'm new to this, and I know they eat grit to help digest food -- which I guess is held in their "crop", but I don't actually know what a crop is and how to tell what is in it vs. what should be in it.....
The crop should...
So, what did your chickens think? Did you ever find anything about it? My feed store suddenly had this brand today, I also am curious if anyone has heard of it? Is it new? I have not fed it to mine yet, as I just unloaded it from the car.
Baby chicks are the absolute best part!! Don't miss out on that (Although be warned, baby chicks can be very addicting). I started with babies and they did great. You will learn everything you need to know and more on this forum, and you will do just fine!!!
I like Purina, use it for my dogs, horses etc, however I also had 2 chickens with crops stuffed full of dirt and gravel. I switched to Homegrown Layer brand, (which soemone told me was made by purina, don't know if thats true) that has animal protein in it and have had no more problems...

Thanks!
I know, we couldn't believe it either. They were in town and I think he was just too much dog for them in a small house. The funny thing was they had given us all his vaccine records, and I found out he had been to my work before, we vaccinated and neutered him there the year...
