The Brooder
Well hot diggity-dog! With 35 chicks hatched and many more hatching every day, I decided to make them a new 2 x 4 feet brooder that could accomodate the cozy lamp brooder (21" x 21") I have.
This is probably the third brooder I've built and by far the largest. I built it...
The Chikken Runs
We decided on two runs- one would be for Splash & Lavender, while the other would be for Buff colored chicks.
--- Uh- oh WAIT A SECOND. As of May 26th, 2010, we now have added a third run. Ideally, I had planned to keep my husband in that one, but after realizing it lacked...
The Hen House!
The concept of "cottages" was the basis for the three houses. We ended up making the house a bit more rectangle to go along with the run which was built first. It is a 4 foot x 8 foot insulated house with easy wash vinyl flooring. We have approx. 14 nest boxes inside it.
Here...
The Rooster House
Our cockhouse was a Craigslist find from someone letting go an old kid's playhouse for a steal. I had planned to build another cottage from scratch but couldn't pass up the price. We modified the house a bit: we added insulation, redid the windows with plexiglass instead of...
The Chicken Village
Welcome to my coop page, my name is Elana. After a year of convincing, plotting and throwing staplers at him, I was finally able to persuade my husband to go along with a backyard menagerie of flockers. I came up with a cottage-style concept with several houses &...
Ronnie hasn't shown the past couple of years because he's been ill. He's on dialysis 3x a week, so I'm not sure how many shows he'll make it to. This one was 20 minutes from the house. He and his son were very pleased to see how many people were buying d'Uccles, even if there weren't a ton of...

Debbie, if they grow up together it should be fine. My roos in the same cages tend to have one dominant male and the others are submissive and usually don't crow.

She's very pretty! If I wasn't busy with the paint auctions, I would have tried to get her! I ended up winning the paint cockerel. So excited and can't wait to see him in person.
I'm so excited that you got him A!
BTW, you need to change your sig to include...

I don't understand what the tennis ball does. How does it keep the water from freezing?
does it work????
It has for me. The movement prevents surface frost from being created. Some ice does form but you can usually break it up. You have to make sure to have the correct size balls...

Have you tried the tennis ball trick? You can put a tennis ball in the water bowl. The polystyrene in the tennis ball doesn't freeze and helps maintain the water.

I don't sell hatching eggs but as someone that has spent $10-15k on eggs, chicks & birds this year (mostly donated to 4-H groups and local youth), I'm extremely grateful to those wonderful breeders that do.
They look Buff to me and I raise Ginger Reds. Generally they should be fiery red throughout with black threaded throughout the tail.
Here is a pic of my Buff Roo next to one of my Ginger Red Boys (my Buff is actually quite a bit darker than that IRL) and you can see my Buff does have a nice...
