    Rooster seizing??

Thanks...yeah..we will. I will be separating the ducks while he is recovering. They had been separated this whole time, then we rescued Rooster and he’s been keeping the peace and everyone has been able to get along. I Hope he is ok!

    Rooster seizing??

Hi All! I noticed this AM our rooster just sort of lay down after they were let out. He was in a daze. He usually will chase off our two drakes from the hens but he didn’t today. He was crowing this AM, eating, walking around after this incident. Then this afternoon, he was free ranging...

    Housing chickens inside freezing temps

Hi! Thanks for your reply. We actually decided to bring them into our barn that has a regulated temperature (although its struggling...🤣). They are all in a big dog pen now happily scratching away at the straw. Looking forward to this Arctic blast to go away.

    Housing chickens inside freezing temps

Hi All! We have a rooster with pretty bad frostbite to his wattles. Our girls are starting to developers it on their combs (mild). It’s -7 with windchill of -18. They have a barn, a place to get out of the wind, and then an enclosed coop for night, Which they aren’t going into right. We have...

    Rescued Rooster- Mild Frostbite

That’s a good idea. This way we aren’t just throwing him out without a gradual decrease in temp. Thanks!

    Rescued Rooster- Mild Frostbite

Hi All! My daughter and I rescued a rooster yesterday. Apparently it had been out for almost two days sleeping in a tree at our school. We had temps in the high 20’s-mid 30’s with snow, sleet, wind. Poor guy was sitting on ice in the tree. Anyway, we got him home, isolated him in the...

Good luck! Write back if have any more questions. If she doesn’t seem to be improving in a couple days, you may have to do something else.

This is how we have treated it as well. Ours always had a hole when we pulled off the scab so the treatment we did must have cleared it up.

Oh good! What did the area look like? Is there a hole where the scab is? If there is, I would try to push on it. Continue to soak and do the treatment because if you leave it exposed, it won’t heal. And limit free ranging because walking must not be fun if she is limping.

In our experience, this is what we have been doing. Tomorrow I would try and peel off the scab, then repeat soaking, ointment, wrap. Then day 3, skip soaking and just clean it, apply ointment/wrap to allow for it to dry out. During this whole treatment, we don’t allow free ranging either so...

Hi! We have not had to cut anything. We just soaked, wound spray, neosporin and then wrapped. My daughter would peel the scab off as it would dry out. If it starts to bleed she would stop then wrap it all up. Can you post a photo?

    Duckling Stuck??

Hi! do we assist in this situation or the duckling is still absorbing. Duckling freed itself from the shell the middle of the night but still has this going on. Duckling moving, breathing, chirping but tired...obviously. Thank you!!!!

    My Muddy Ducks!

Yeah..they managed to destroy the grass so I’ll have to start seeding and blocking it off. Lol!

    My Muddy Ducks!

Ok..that’s what I was thinking . They do have a tree and shade structure (not up today) but eventually the sun makes it way to sun the pool area late in the day

    My Muddy Ducks!

We used cattle panels too. They can’t get out. It’s low enough to the ground. Our little bantam chicken can get out but that’s it. Thanks for the tips! Going to start collecting all this stuff. 😄

    My Muddy Ducks!

Thank you! Thanks for the tips. I tried planting seeds but didn’t block it off so this didn’t go over well. 🤪. I’ll block off some areas...good idea. We are going to have a pond built for them this year so hopefully this will make life easier for all. I’ll leave the sloping to my...
