For several reasons, I am now limiting my small backyard flock’s free ranging time and am instead keeping them mostly in their coop and attached run. Does keeping chickens penned up (and closer to their nest boxes) encourage egg laying?
I have two Silkies that have now been broody for 6 or 8 weeks. Is there anything I can do to encourage them to get off the nest and start laying again? If not, how long is this likely to last? Unfortunately, I have no way to restrict nest box access.
I have just added a beautiful new Polish hen to my flock (hatched 2/5/19), and I’m wondering what I might expect with regard to egg production. I know that Polish aren’t known for their laying, and that’s not why I acquired “Moira,” but I’m just curious as to what other Polish owners are getting...
I would like to add some interior, nighttime lighting to my coop for the winter months to help with egg production. My coop is not wired for electricity, and the thought of running an extension cord out seems like a fire hazard to me. I’d like to figure out an appropriate battery-powered...
I have the opportunity to add a lovely 6 month old Polish pullet into my small, mixed backyard flock. What would you say the pros and cons are of owning this unique and quirky breed?

Has anyone ever utilized one of Petsafe’s remote training collars for their dogs? I’ve purchased the 100 yard remote “lite” training collar to work on a few behaviors with my small Jack Russell mix, including preventing him from chasing my hens when they’re free ranging in our yard. So far he’s...
I don’t know about where y’all live, but here in TN we’re having the hottest September I can remember. What are some tricks and tips that you utilize to keep your chickens cool in this heat? I’m adding ice to their water twice daily but am wondering whether they need a fan of some kind.
Well that answers that question! Thank you :-) I am a chicken beginner and I still don’t understand the difference between rose combs and single combs. I need to figure that one out.
We are considering getting a miniature pony for our daughter. We live on about half an acre and our property is fully fenced. I have quite a bit of horse experience but none with minis. My question is what kind of small barn or run in shelter would we need to build or buy for a miniature pony...
