    Bumblefoot contagious?

I’ve heard that as a staph infection it is transmissible to humans and we should wear gloves when treating it. If it’s contagious to humans wouldn’t it also be contagious to other chickens? As far as treating the underlying causes, it’s out of my control. My chickens are free to roam about all...

    Bumblefoot contagious?

One of my chickens has bumble foot AGAIN. She had it last year and it took 2 months of various courses of treatment to clear it. I swore then that I wouldn’t go through it again. Well here I am, 4 weeks in with another round. My questions are a) can it spread to the other chickens, and b) can it...

    Bumblefoot treatment and follow up

Just an update. I didn’t get all of the kernel the first time and had to cut out the rest a few days ago. Once I did that she heeled very quickly. All in all, it was a 10 day process and today is her first day without a bandage. It was a scary process as a new chicken ‘tender’ I’m so grateful...

    Bumblefoot treatment and follow up

Hi. I was finally was able to get her when she went to roost this evening. Here are two pics of her foot. The swelling MAY be down a bit, but I don’t feel like I’ve gotten all of the infection out. She’s a trooper - still scratching, pecking, eating and drinking with the flock, but I feel like...

    Bumblefoot treatment and follow up

When I went to soak her foot again today I noticed there is still a lot of swelling. It seems like there is still pus in there which I was unable to get out. I cleaned it up as best I could, reapplied antibiotic ointment and bandaged. What more should I be doing?

    Bumblefoot treatment and follow up

Hi all. My chicken has Bumblefoot. I soaked her foot in an epsom bath, cut out the kernel, rinsed with iodine, coated with triple antibiotic ointment and bandaged it up. Other than cutting the kernel out, there was no other pus that I was able to extract. I’m new at this so I’d like to ask what...

    Leghorn with Bumblefoot

And just to be sure I understand, the “spa treatment” is an epsom soak?

    Leghorn with Bumblefoot

Wow! Thank you so much for this thoughtful reply. This seems much more manageable than lancing with a scalpel, changing wounds daily and separating for several days. I appreciate you!

    Leghorn with Bumblefoot

I just discovered I have a chicken with Bumblefoot too. In addition to the soaking and lancing, are antibiotics necessary? Do I need to keep the drained wound bandaged up and her separated from the rest of the flock for a period of time? If so, how long? I’m a newbie with chickens so I’m a...

Does anyone have a Great Pyrenees...?

We have a 1 y/o GP/Anatolian mix that we got as a rescue about 3 months ago. He is a good watchdog and works mostly at night. When he’s working he barks at everything... all night long. He stays pretty close to home, though he has visited the neighbors on at least one occasion. We do not have...

    Favus?

Can I please get an opinion about whether this is Favus or something else. My handsome guy is 7 1/2 months old and has had this white on his comb since the beginning. He is a healthy bird otherwise and none of my 8 other chicks are affected. He’s not really the kind of guy who likes to be...
