I checked her crop when I went to help her off the roost this morning (this is normal, she is spoiled and we lift her from her roost every day), and her crop felt full of squishy liquid. She has more energy today but is still peckish. She’ll show interest in food and water but won’t actually...
One of our birds hasn't been doing so hot. As of tonight, her neck has started to jolt either left or right, and im not sure whats happening. She has been isolating a bit for a few days and hasn't been eating or drinking as much either, but she's 3 years old so i figured that it might just be...
Our roo has shown some eye discharge and crustiness around his eye. He has also developed a nasty cough. Any ideas as to what this could be? I attached pictures of his eye. I should also add that I am not able to examine the bird myself, since I am off at college. Thanks in advance!
We have two "automatic" doors for our coop. Thing is, they aren't automatic. The timers work, but I always unplug them at night b/c if the power goes off or surges the doors will automatically cycle. I don't want to wake up to see something got into the coop because lightning shut off the power...
Its looking hopeful that we'll be getting rid of them soon. With all the sites yall have been telling me about the internet is being flooded with pictures of our birds. Like I said in a previous post we have one who needs to be gone ASAP, and it looks like we have someone interested. Hoping we...
Yeah we've lowed the price to $1 and are trying to "sell" them as a pair (i.e. one cockerel and a pullet). We have someone interested in one of them, and for now we only need to get rid of one who has become a pain recently. Not saying we plan to keep the rest, but still.
As for butchering I...
We have them up on a site called Five Mile, works like Craigslist. If I have some time today I'll put them up on a bunch of other sites as well. Not sure about the feed store, haven't seen fliers there before.
Only reason he have them for that price is because we've had issues putting up birds for free. The crowd that is drawn in by the word "free" tends to not follow through with the deal.
The hatches were hatched in a group of two and a group of three. The group of two has a for sure pullet, and...
Out of the 5 birds we let our hens hatch this year, 4 of them are all but confirmed to be Roos. I know, how unlucky can you get? Well, they are starting to cause problems and we need them gone. This is the last big hurdle for me as a chicken tender before I leave for college next month, but im...
Update: They both have been moved to a bigger cage. No one has claimed them yet so it looks like we're going to keep them. Also, they have both laid an egg meaning we can keep them. They have a lot of energy and are exploring their new home!
Gotcha, thanks for the info! I've been lucky to never had to deal with such an injury, hence my uncertainty. Haven't had a lot of luck when it comes to integrating, but im hoping we can get these two in!
Ok, so we saw a Facebook post saying there were two lost chickens in with a bunch of condos. Since we are somewhat experienced with dealing with chickens and have a lot, we figured we needed to do something. One of them was easy to pick up but the other was in a panic, took 15mins to grab it...
Hello!
So we have three different birds that we need to integrate into our main flock. Two of the three hens are good friends with each other, and the other is a mother hen who is raising three chicks (however, she has all but decided that they can take care of themselves). The mother hen used...
Attached is a picture of 5 eggs from 2 of our birds. Recently, these two have seen a sudden change in their egg color / texture. The picture shows this change in egg shell color from top to bottom.
We have also lost several eggs to (what we think) was them having very thin shells (from our...
Apparently he is a Great Pyreness Anatolian Shepherd mix. Like I said previously, I probably would have known about the cost of a trainer but I have not had any time to research! Looks like a much more viable option than I had thought...
And keep away from the "big name" trainers, got it!
The pup is a Great Pyrenees mix! So far, this is pretty much what I have been told about training the dog. The main idea is to get the dog comfortable with the whole flock, while teaching him not to play with any of the birds. I like what you said about feeding the Roo and keeping the dog close...
