Our roo has shown some eye discharge and crustiness around his eye. He has also developed a nasty cough. Any ideas as to what this could be? I attached pictures of his eye. I should also add that I am not able to examine the bird myself, since I am off at college. Thanks in advance!

Does he have a bad odor from his face, or not? He could have a respiratory disease such as mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) but hard to know without testing. Tylosin is one of several antibiotics that may treat MG, but chickens are then carriers for life. Symptoms may come back again later. It may take some time to get it, but here is where to find Tylosin:

Dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days.

Got about six inches from his face, mother says she can't smell anything. This is probably the closest we can get to him
