Hi, i have a 3 day old jap quail chick, texas a&m. Everytime it wakes up, it starts chirping so loudly. My question, are female chicks noisy? Because i remember this ones dad was noisy, & i am hoping its a girl. (Unfortunately only one egg hatched)
Thanks guys
Hi everyone, i have just had my first ever quail hatch. A little coturnix. A gorgeous little white fellow. He hatched day 19. There is one other egg in the bator that i know from candling was always a very active chick, moved around alot and was the first one i knew to be fertile. Yet that chick...
I appreciate everybodies feedback. After opening incubator and i could smell a rotten smell coming from egg with hole in it. I broke egg open as clearly it was dead and this is what i found. Any insights? Perfectly formed chick, lots of black liquid, no yolk and airsac no holes.
I will candle pointy ends too see, but i cant see any movement. I will have a closer look tonight. Will chick still make it with hole in egg? If he is still alive in there
I have made the hole, its only small so i cant get a good photo. I can see feathers but no movement. I havent opened fully yet. (I have a baby to tend too at the moment) But i intend to soon and will post pics of what i find.
I have another to put a hole in aswell, if i do this and it is alive...
No :( i even chirped at them mum might and got nothing. I will let you know if i can see any internal pipping tonight when it is dark. By the way, when you hold the egg up to your ear to listen for cheeping is it quite loud or do you really have to concentrate to hear because i cant hear...
This is the first time trying in an incubator. I have my own quails and thought i would try. So i guess im still learning, the incubator doesnt show humidty, its just a small 6 egg one. And im thinking that perhaps it might be dodgy, because i have tried 12 eggs in it so far and nothing
Ive lost all but 2, float test yesterday the other one didnt move bit it was the first (and last) time ive float tested so i have left that one in aswell. Total of 2 eggs, that with candling show full sized chicks. Fingers crossed, i will try popping him on the floor. Thankyou for your help :)
Oh okay! I wont do it anymore. I couldnt see any definate movement and the air cell is still intact. It looked quite red in the egg more so than black. Im not sure, do you think he still has a chance 3 days overdue?
