    The rooster I have at the moment in a black sex link. He waits outside in the summer when the hens are free ranging and he will not go inside till the last hen has gone in.....I have seen him go around the yard looking for a hen that has not gone inside yet.(5 +acre ) he is a very good protector.

    First Time With Winter

    First off...are you talking F or C degrees....makes a big diferance. However its still to cold if the chick have not been exposed to any cool weather. If they are already used to cooler temps, they should be ok. In my opinion. My flock is doing quite well in -20F .

    Hen found dead..

    Went into the hen house to gather the eggs to day and 1 of our hens was dead on the floor. Some of the eggs in the nest boxes where bloody. So I examined the dead hen to find that her vent was badly lasserated, lots of dark red blood losing out. I could not find a blood trail in the straw and...

    How Many PET Chickens Are In Your Flock?

    None of my chickens are pets. 22 egg layers 1 Roo and 10 meat birds. Layers make money to pay their way plus feed my family. Meat birds do what they are supposed to do. They go freezer school next week. None are named, I don't want to be attached as it's to hard to part with a pet.

    I have heard of double yoke eggs but never a triple. We have 22 Sex link x about 19/20 weeks, they just started laying some small eggs. ...bout the size of small store bought egg. Then this morning this xx large egg. Didn't know it was a 3 yoke till it was in the try pan. Any thoughts....?

    These birds look just like what I got this spring as Black sex link...I ordered 20 chicks, received 22, all survived. there is about a 50/50 mix between all black and golden colour head shoulders. The one Ro is a blk/wht brindle.(lack of better term)

    UPDATE - PLEASE HELP ME

    Sorry for your loss. I can't help with why these things happen, it has to be natures way of dealing with things that we know nothing about. It is said that all things happen for a reason so we must believe that and move on.....
