Hello, BYC! I haven't posted anything in quite a while, being that everything's been okay with my chicks. But recently, I've noticed that my rooster seems to be plucking several feathers from the hens. In total, I have eight chickens, with one rooster and seven hens. I am sure all of the hens...
Hello! I am slightly new to chicken owning, so I am still flowing with questions. I have come to you for answers. I have this sweet, ever-laying White Leghorn. As a chick, she was quite sleepy and secluded. She had warmed up to my family and me, ending up being the most friendly chicken of our...
Hello BYC, I just let my chickens out to free-range for a bit, and I noticed that my White Leghorn had an oversized crop. I am worried because it can fit in the palm of my hand. (very concerning) Does anyone know what is going on, or does anyone have any advice for me?
You see, it's like they are two different flocks. The bigs have their pecking order, and just beat up on the littles. The littles have their pecking order and run away from the bigs. Yes, I'm not sure it's enough room for eight chickens. I want them to be happy and I, myself have a few...
She doesn't seem to be in any pain. I'll wet her feed for a while, so her beak can heal. The littles have been with the bigs for maybe a little over two months. We've had no critical problems, till now. The littles are probably a little over 3 months.
I'll definitely get another feeder and waterer. A run may be a little difficult. The coop didn't turn out how I wanted it to, but then again it was my father's choice. I'd love to have a run and a bigger coop, but that's a whole other story. I'll try to ask, maybe for Christmas. (lol it is the...
Okay, just saying the white part is not her natural beak. Her beak is naturally black. The older ones actually broke the tip of her beak off. There are 8 birds including the little ones. Only one feeder and waterer. (should I have more? I am new to this) No run, because they are or were...
Yeah, I didn't think she was ready for layer either, but then there comes my father. He doesn't want to pay for two feed bags... I don't think either her or her sister get enough to eat because the bigger chickens are always chasing them away. I've always free-ranged the whole flock but am now...
So, integration did not go well. The older chickens haven't been very nice to this little one. I don't know her age or her breed. My father said to just feed her the same food as the older chickens, which is purina layer crumble. I knew grower would be the best for her, but I couldn't argue with...
I love my White Leghorn. She's just the sweetest. She gets dirty quite often but other than that she is by far one of my most favorite chickens. And honestly, I haven't had chickens long enough to say that I don't like a breed.
Update: I am happy to say that we are finally out of the woods! Tweety (the white leghorn) is gaining weight, and chirping happily. Thank you for all you're help @Wyorp Rock
