Who else has ever had a broody White Leghorn? 🤣

Hello everyone!!! I’m just popping in to see how many have been in the same boat as me… I’ve heard it’s relatively rare to have a truly broody White Leghorn. But I raise you… Ruth Bader Hensberg!! She’s been brooding for almost 2 weeks now. I didn’t believe she’d last, so i’m just now putting...

    Pullet has split beak?

Hi! My 9 m/o EE has a split beak. (photo) She isn’t having any issues eating or foraging or preening or pecking at people. it has no affect on her life whatsoever. she just looks like she has a gap-tooth. I’ve tried to trim it back and place one of those manicure saver fiber things with...

    Odd egg layed ? Cause

I read that, too. I’ve never seen a feed specifically for 18-20wk birds. LOL. I didn’t even know that existed. I really think things should improve almost immediately after giving extra calcium!!! I had one of those eggs after a hen got attacked by a hawk and i switched to feeding her high...

    Chicken survived hawk attack

I agree to see photos. it depends on what “unpleasant” smells like- i personally think the smell of dry chicken blood is very unpleasant. Just keep flushing it as best you can!

2 year old Brahma thin, low energy, very bright green liquid poo

Hi- I’ve heard of this issue, and from what i’ve read the green poop is bile, which means all the fat stores are gone and she’s just pooping stomach acid essentially. So she’s starving- that’s the biggest issue you’ll need to tackle. I’ve read that the lime green poop isn’t super conclusive...

    Odd egg layed ? Cause

There’s no calcium at all in that layer mix- that’s probably a cause of your problem. I can’t see the back of the scratch bag, but there typically isn’t shell in scratch, so i’m led to believe that if shell was added that it would be listed as a special ingredient on the front for advertising...

    Odd egg layed ? Cause

I believe you’re correct. From what i’ve heard from my personal vet and other chicken keepers is that scratch should never be a part of their daily nutritional intake. they shouldn’t be consuming more than 10% of their daily food intake in scratch. i feed mine a little more scratch than usual in...

    Bumble foot

One thing I would check on - since multiple chickens have it - is possible causes for infection. Is their roosting rail wide enough? too high? debris in the run? when multiple of my chickens came down with it at once i found 2 issues- stickers in grass & a roosting rail that was too high. since...

    Chicken survived hawk attack

forgot to mention- sometimes saline can be used to free debris from the wound. it doesn’t feel as bad as water. you can also warm it so it’s not so shocking to the bird.

    Chicken survived hawk attack

I had a hen survive a hawk attack a few months ago. she was essentially ‘scalped’ on the back of her neck, lost a part of her eyelid, and lost half her comb. we went ahead and made 1 gallon of water mixed with 1/2 low dose aspirin and it REALLY made all the difference in her recovery. she would...
