I considered that as a possibility. Another hen is a strong possible. Thanks!

    Broken eggs in brooding nest

Our Fawn Runner went broody, much to our surprise, but I have discovered broken eggs among her nest. If they didn't stink, I wouldn't find them. I have to clean out the nest so there isn't bacteria. Does she break them? Is a hen maliciously doing it while she's off the nest? What's the scoop?

    Broody Hens

I have two sister hens that have remained broody for over a week. My space for a brooder box is limited, so I was thinking of putting the together in the brooder cage. What do you think?

What is the best way to feed geese?

Maybe next year. They won't breed the first year together, and with a change in housing, they may need another year to feel safe with brooding a clutch. They're very sensitive to that.

What is the best way to feed geese?

Geese are seasonal layers. They lay just for hatching purposes, in their minds, and it's only between late January until June, at the latest. Most geese only lay for a few months. If they don't have a cozy and cushy spot for nesting they won't lay. Are they doing the deed and no eggs being produced?

    Ultrasound Rodent Eliminator

We get mice in our shed that stores all the feed, tools, machines, etc. This isn't the chickens living space, but in proximity to their space for free ranging. Anyone know if this sonic wave would bother the chickens? Also have ducks and geese

    Red skin, broken feathers

We have a guard goose that was pulling our chickens feathers, mostly at their necks or their tails, but since adjusting her diet we notice the painful redness around their preen glands and some missing wing feathers. I’m pretty sure this is a mouse problem, but do the mice actually chew on them...

How bad does molting affect a chicken?

Sounds a bit like my flock currently. We are in northeast KS, cool but not frigid. Interested to hear what feedback you receive. I was thinking maybe a bullying issue since it’s my RIRs that look so bad and my Barred Rocks look fine.

    Small Pool Water for Goose

Thanks Island Girl. I wasn't even considering anything chemical. Thank you for your input. My husband just had to put an pool in ground for our Juno, goose. She struggles to get in and out otherwise. We weren't able to find a plastic kiddie pool this year, they sold out every time we tried!

    Small Pool Water for Goose

We have purchased a decent size rubber tub to bury in the ground for our gooses bath/pool time. We've put a drain in it and will construct a cover. Anyone have suggestions for water treatment to help keep the water longer before draining and refill?

We decided to wait on it. It looks a little better tonight. Our local farming friend (doesn't know waterfowl) had a few places things for us to think about. Do you work your geese?

    Puffy cheek continues

It's not hard, maybe like air, but I have noticed she runs that's side of her face a lot when preening.

    Puffy cheek continues

Okay, puffy cheek is bigger. You mentioned lancing it. Can you give me more info? I assume it needs to be done from inside her mouth? Please help. Now I'm getting worried and don't have a managed Vet relationship ion.
