Insulation suggestion for Chicken Run under Metal Panel Roof

Interesting. Does it help with the heat? I am concerned with the metal panels causing an incubation effect.

Insulation suggestion for Chicken Run under Metal Panel Roof

We are planning to cover one of the chicken runs with metal panels to provide more shade and protection from rain. We are in SE Texas so I was thinking of adding insulation underneath. I am looking for suggestions of lower cost insulation that can withstand moisture/humidity. Would the rolls...

Have you ever had a chicken stop laying permanently?

I have a black star that will be 4 in March. About 2 years ago she started molting and stopped laying. I expected her to start again but she never did. It has been about two years. She is seemingly healthy and is actuall the only hen who has never been sick & put in ICU. She just stopped laying...

    Do automatic coop doors freeze?

I have the Ador Stor door as well. I'm in Texas and we have had two Artic blasts with the temps in the single digits. The water inside the coop froze but the door worked perfectly. I cant say enough good things about this door really. I do have mine under cover and use the awning provided.

Planning , and stumped about mud

I had two French drains in my coop that I finally dug up yesterday. The boxes ended up being a trap for mud and food the girls scattered around which in-turn led to maggots. I will say the dirt eventually hardened up over time so it gets wet but not the deep muddy mess it was when just put in there.

I need help understanding why my chicken died.

I have learned the hard way from Avian vets that chickens are very prone to cancer. I have lost two and both were most likely cancer according to the vet. I had one die from cancer (likely of the liver) and another from cancer in her reproductive organs. Both had diarrhea and were lethargic...

Temperatures are rising!! How do you keep your chickens cool in the coop, run, and or brooders?!?!

My husband dug me a little chicken pond which I put cold water in daily. I keep frozen jugs in and around the pond to keep the water cool and allow them to sit by the jugs. I freeze a bowl of water every night for drinking water. I also let them out to find their own shade because it is too hot...

Does it matter where I get my chickens from as far as life expectency?

I appreciate the responses. I was going to try Meyer for my next birds to see how that goes. Unless there is another suggestion here. I have a neighbor who has lots of chickens and gets them from Tractor Supply or feed stores. I asked her about her history with illness. She said she was...

Does it matter where I get my chickens from as far as life expectency?

I am not sure if this is the best section for this thread so let me know if I should move it. Does it matter where I get my chicks from if I want them to live longer? Seems like it should but where is the best place to get chicks from so they around much longer than what I seem to have. Let...

Mouth breathing chicken not heat related

If it is hot a couple of mine will breathe through their mouth and hold their wings out One of started gulping for air because fluid was filling up her abdomen and pushing on her air sacs. The fluid would have eventually suffocated her had it not been drained. Point being there could be more...

Egg bound but maybe also water belly??

When I thought this might be the issue I crushed up a Tums and put it in some water. I fed it via syringe. No idea if egg bound is your issue but if it is that is one way to force the calcium.

Hen with persistent watery poop since recovering from being ill and stopped laying again

I have a hen who got really sick and I am still not sure what the cause was. When her watery poop persisted after recovery i took her to the vet. The vet thought it might be her food so I stopped feeding it. Fecal showed no worms and she was not egg bound when the vet examined her. I should note...

Is it ok to give pullets not laying yet Poultry Booster with calcium

Nothing concrete just my gut feeling. She has watery poop since getting sick. It almost looks like there is gooey egg white in it to me. I crated her when she got sick, got her healthy with antibiotics, poultry drench and calcium (Tums). After she recovered she was laying more than ever. The...

Is it ok to give pullets not laying yet Poultry Booster with calcium

Seems like one of mine isn't getting enough calcium while eating the grower feed for the pullets. I am not sure if she is eating the oyster shell.

Is it ok to give pullets not laying yet Poultry Booster with calcium

I have two pullets who will be laying next month most likely. One is already doing the squat. I picked up some Poultry Booster by Rooster Booster from TSC today because some of my two year old girls have stopped laying completely. Will this hurt the two pullets who are not laying? The...
