This winter's been a tough winter! Lots of snow and now that spring is here, the usual endless rain So everything is wet, wet, wet. I do try to keep the coop and run as clean as possible, but I did see some mold when I cleaned it out last. The chickens all free range during the day.
Anyway I...
Well...different people are attracted to different breeds.
I think those that like the EE's, they are an "easy to obtain" blue or green egg laying type of chicken. Probably is the biggest attraction to the breed. And the fact that they are basically a surprise--will they lay light blue? Dark...
Doe anyone anywhere near Humboldt have a spare silkie hen???
I'm dying to get some chicks but every time I go to the feed store they are sold out of EE chicks, Ideal is sold out untill May, so I thought I could just hatch some from my eggs but, I need me a broody! So plllleeeeasse if anyone has...
Good to hear of another gray egg layer. Sorry you lost her!
I was so surprised to see the gray egg sitting in there with all the beautiful blues and greens...thought it was the lighting at first, but nope it's a gray egg! Where does that color come from?? Anybody know? Need to find out which hen...
I'm picking up a couple of Orloff's from the feed store this weekend! It's been hard finding a lot of info about them. No expereience with them except for seeing a couple at the poultry show. What beauties! A few quick q's
How are they in a mixed flock? Are the submissive, dominant, etc.?

Most of mine started laying at around 6 months. One even until 7 months. But, their beautiful eggs were well worth the wait and they sure pump them out!
Has anyone had an EE that layed GRAY eggs??? I think it's one of my EE's that's been laying it....just a light gray egg with the slightest tinge of blue/green
That is awesome!! I figure my dogs would sure looove a lot of what they're offering there. Heck I'm try any "weird and exotic" meat too!
The diet water though...um...that's something else entirely. what?
One of my EE's laid an egg that size. I couldn't believe something that size could come out of a chicken...OUCH! I was disappointed that it only had two yolks too...
I have mostly hatchery Easter Eggers and a couple breeder Ameraucanas. I selected EE's that are more Ameraucana type, since I believe EE's are typically primarily Ameraucana crossed with brown egg laying breeds. Be selective when picking out chicks is my advice. I skip over EE's with yellow legs...
Howdy! I'm from Humboldt County too...out in the hills between Ferndale and Petrolia. Willow Creek is beautiful! Love that area.
Any other "Humboldtians" around?
Here's some more of my flock. Sadly I'm down to 7...buuuuut in a week the feed store is getting their first shipment of chicks including "Ameraucanas" (well, at least they spelled it right) and I'll be there as soon as I can to replenish my stock
My half EE half Araucana rooster. Tried for...
Ranch= typically LARGE scale livestock operation, cattle or sheep, horses, etc. on rangeland. If crops are raised for more than "personal use" it's almost always feed for the livestock. Ranches are self-sustaining and often have pastures also harvested for hay...
Farm= typically smaller with...
I have three! First is Tiger Lily, 8 year old big game/varmint/hog/cow dog. She is supposedly pure Mountain Cur. Protective, loyal, and my best friend in the world!
Next is Wolverine...4 year old Mountain Cur x Pit Bull x Catahoula. Dumber than a sack full of hammers. Good coyote dog, big...

All of my EE's are very productive layers except for one who lays about every other day, and all are very friendly and calm, not flighty or...
