She’s still the same really, had a few more baths and she did perk up a bit after laying on Saturday and had some food and water which was she wasn’t doing before.
I gave her some yoghurt with probiotics, and calcium and some coconut oil incase she’s constipated. She has been passing small...
*EDIT* literally as I posted I heard a little thud... an egg!!
She is still straining however and her butt is pretty bloody, see pic! Could there be a second egg stuck in there?

Not sure whether I need to be treating for egg binding or vent gleet - or whether the two go hand in hand? Or one has caused the other?
Rihenna is a big girl, 9 months-ish old and usually a trouble-free, regular layer. However when I went into the run to get her yesterday I did...
Thank you both, that’s a relief to hear.
I don’t want to keep the pinless peepers on any longer than I need to but as we head into the winter the girls tend to hang out inside the coop much more through the day with the rain and cold so would worry they may revert back again
I’ll try to keep this as short as possible so not to waffle, but don’t want to miss out any details!
I had a young hen, Rihanna, being badly picked and pecked by one other hen, Barbara, (and sometimes her accomplice) in the summer.
Rihanna’s poor tail feathers were almost non-existent and as...
There’s two roosts both about 80cm wide.
I must have jinxed myself as I’ve been out this morning and 4 out of 5 were up on the roost! They must have heard me 😉
I’ll try blocking off the nest box tonight to see if I can get the last one up on there too 👍🏻
I’ll try that tonight and see how we go!
I can probably say on around 3 or 4 occasions I’ve gone out in the morning and heard a couple of thuds as I open up for them which I’m assuming is them jumping down and when I’ve looked inside 1 or 2 are still sitting up there.
Could it be that they’re...
I have 5 hens ages ranging from 8-14 weeks. They’re all great at taking themselves into the coop at night but won’t sleep on the roosting bars.
There’s two bars in the coop so space isn’t an issue and I’ve noticed them jumping up and sitting on there in the daytime so they can get up there with...
I’d guess pullet too, here’s my 13 week old RiR cockerel for comparison - bigger comb/wattle and lovely shiny green tail feathers coming in.
My pullet looks pretty similar to yours too (but she’s never sat still enough for a photo!)
I have a pair of 7 week old RiRs who I'm beginning to phase out of their brooder into the coop full-time.
As long as the weather isn't too wet they go out in the morning and spend much of the day in the coop and run, before coming back in at night.
I also have 2 x 2-week old Cream Legbars -...
Thank you - he's much more himself now, phew!
I tried some drops of olive oil and massaging his crop gently - not sure if it's just coincidence but it does seem to have done the trick and the bloating started to go down slowly.
Looking for some advice please!
My (assumed) RiR roo isn't looking too great today...
I've gone in this morning to find him looking pretty quiet and reserved in the brooder, which is very unlike him and my other RiR
You can see in the picture below the difference between him and my other RiR...
Any ideas on these guys please!
6 week old Rhode Island Reds and 3 day old Cream Crested Legbars
Thanks in advance!! :thumbsup
Rhode Island Reds
A - Lighter in colour, more speckles feathers
B - Much more defined comb, darker in colour, less speckles in feathers
Cream Legbars
A - Darker and...
Hello everyone - I'm new here!! :frow
As a novice chicken keeper this forum has been my go-to the last few months in me setting out in beginning my flock...
I thought it would have been a bit more straight forward to tell the males from the females apart so I'd love to hear your thoughts :)...
