    Chicken disease

I thought I read apple cider vinegar had some antibacterial properties but maybe just in humans. I was kinda reading everything and trying anything. Funny she seems to love the flavor. Someone else thought it was too acidic and said I shouldn’t give it to her . When I gave her plain water again...

    Chicken disease

She appears perfectly normal except for the fact that she can barely walk. Eyes are clear and responsive. She’s eating and drinking just fine. She seemed very thirsty. I gave the vinegar thinking it would give her a little natural antibiotic. I hope I didn’t make her sicker by doing that!

    Respiratory infection in baby chick

Thanks for replying.. I’ve been feeding them starter feed. Non-medicated at first then decided after this chick wasn’t doing well that maybe I should give them some medicated starter which I just gave them some today. I’ve offered a little fruit for snacks but they haven’t been interested. I...

    Respiratory infection in baby chick

Hi all, I think my 3 week old baby chick has an respiratory infection. She shakes her head and sneezes and sounds like something is stuck in her throat. She also breathes fast and closses her eyes a lot. She is till eating and drinking well. I’m new at this . My first time hatching chicks. I’d...

    Reducing humidity

This is interesting and being new I’m always stressed out about it. But I believe here up north it’s the humidity in combination with the cold that’s the problem . It can cause frostbite and respiratory illness. Plus the feathers get wet and the chickens get cold and can’t fight the chill...

    Reducing humidity

Thanks we bought this coop cuz we loved the look of it. Being beginners we didn’t notice obvious flaws until we had it delivered. It was new but needed work. The nesting boxes leaked the window only opens on the bottom, lack of high ventilation. We added the screen door ourselves which was...

    Reducing humidity

Thank you.. I thought a little extra insulation would keep down any drafts and get prepared for colder temps.it’s snug coop for only three of them. They had this routine way of roosting where a wall was on one side and the rooster was on the other end keeping the ladies toasty in the middle. I...

Hi sorry , after this post I actually lost my beloved rooster to a Fischer cat or fox. Not sure which just know it wasn’t a bear or Hawk small prints that I couldn’t clearly make out. I now have 3 hens and my coop is actually large. 6x8 6 foot high peaked roof with two outside nesting boxes...
