Producer’s Pride Brooder and Coop Heater

Does anyone have any experience using these to brood chicks? I’ve been looking into getting one, but haven’t heard much about how they work. Also, can you brood chicks with them on the heater setting? My brooder won’t fit it laying flat so I would like to flip it on its side.

    Loose Poop

Not sure how hot it was yesterday, probably in the 70s. Thank you for the input.

    Loose Poop

I was practicing with one of my birds for showmanship today, and she had a loose poop. Anyone know what causes this or if there’s something wrong?

    Injured Comb

One of my Isa Browns has a minor injury on her comb that was bleeding yesterday. The other chickens were pecking at the injury, so we removed her last night. I have vetericyn poultry spray and anti peck lotion I will be putting on her tonight. My question is, when am I okay to put her back in...

Anyone know what breeds of chicks TSC is selling?

I think it varies based on what the hatchery sends them. When I was getting chicks last year, it sounded like they didn’t know what they were getting until it got there.

    Blue Plymouth Rock

I’m not entirely sure, mine lay eggs that are more tinted white/cream colored.

    Vaseline on Combs

I noticed today that a couple of my chickens have some minors frostbite on their combs. I was wondering, can I put Vaseline on them? If so, how much and how often do I apply it?

Successful 100% forage diet experiment (long post)

Would you even need to supplement in winter if they have access to forage from the larger livestock?

Coop is coming to life! Please let me know what I’m missing!

I just have pine shavings and straw in my run. My flock mostly stays under the coop where that is, and they enjoy scratching through it. For mite prevention, a good dust bathing area is supposed to help so they can keep clean. I used an old tire for this, although mine continually pass it up for...

    Whodunnit?

I got 5 pullets in July, and started getting eggs about two weeks ago. I was collecting eggs today, and noticed that the one from today was significantly larger than the one from yesterday, and had a different hue as well. I have two Isa Browns, two Blue Rocks, and a Mystic Maran. I know the egg...

On my way to getting chickens.

Welcom to BYC! If you’re looking for information on specific breeds when deciding what to get, I also recommend https://morningchores.com/ , I learned a lot there before I was on BYC.

Successful 100% forage diet experiment (long post)

It might be, maybe plant some kind of winter cover crop would work. Although it might not if it’s buried in snow😂

Successful 100% forage diet experiment (long post)

Very cool story! I wonder how well this would work in a colder climate with less forage in winter.

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I think my chickens preferred the warmer weather too, they wouldn’t come out of their coop this morning so I had to move their feed and water right next to the door😂
